doesn't give a shit about them. We're in a fight, so let's fight.

(11,546 posts)but the problem we'd have even if someone came up with funding is that most billboards are owned by some fine loyal republicon advertising corporations. They probably would refuse something like that.

You can't reach these people, not with a billboard, not with a bullhorn, not with logic, not with emotion. They've been conditioned and brainwashed. Only veritable deprogramming will be effective.

(25,355 posts)He has tried since then to remake his image into a moderate through his membership in the problem solvers coalition. It's a superficial, phony remake since he is a trumpist who was co-chair of the Trump campaign in NY. But he is a smooth liar, skilled at doublespeak, and he flashes a big smile. His policies and views are as vile as any magat, but he projects a "nice guy" image that impresses people who don't look at his voting record or listen to what he is really saying.
His family business is healthcare debt collections. There were some serious complaints about tactics he used and false accusations he made of people who owed nothing that sound almost like extortion. For some reason, the media don't cover that and have helped him promote his moderate nice guy remake. But the trail is there for anyone to look into. He went through his first term without divesting himself from his business, even when told to. Eventually he put it in his wife's name. When challenged on that, he turns it around and asks, "Don't you believe that women should be allowed to run a successful business?" That totally sidesteps the issue of conflicts of interest since he still benefits from the business through his wife and also votes on health care issues and costs.
Tom Reed would be a total disaster for NY state if he became governor.

(25,355 posts)Affordable Care Act, someone suggested that it was because Obamacare would cut into his debt collection profits.
Reed could barely wait to go to the media with outrage over complaints about Cuomo, calling Cuomo "disgusting, shameful." He called for impeachment over the sexual harrassment complaints and arrest over the nursing home investigation. Yet, he voted both times against impeachment for Trump.
Reed is political toast now. A woman, Nicolette Davis, came forward to Huffington Post complaining that Reed groped her in 2017 when she was at a networking meeting in Minneapolis. She was a 25 year old lobbyist for Aflac at the time. The group was in a restaurant bar/lounge when Reed rubbed her back, pinched open the clasp on her bra, and stroked her thigh. She asked for help and another person escorted Reed out of the restaurant.
Reed initially issued a statement that "This account of my actions is not accurate." But witnesses with the lobbyist who made the complaint have corroborated her claim, including the person at Aflac who was her superviisor at the time because she had reported it to the company.
NY Senator Gillibrand said the complaint was being referred to the House ethics committee. Reed then issued a public apology, said he will not run for any elected office in 2022 when his House term is up. Reed says he has sought treatment for alcohol addiction since the incident in 2017. The state Republican chairman was mentioned in a Huffpost article about Reed's apology, so I suspect that he was told not to run again.
His district is purple, but leans to the right. A good Dem candidate could get elected in his place, but it would need to be a strong one with good public appeal.
