WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) As he stood in the Rose Garden celebrating his first big legislative win, President Joe Biden gestured to the White House and said its a magnificent building to live in.
Except on weekends.
Of the eight weekends since Biden took office, he has spent three at his longtime home outside Wilmington, Delaware, including this weekend. Tentative plans for another weekend visit were scrubbed due to Senate action on Bidens $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan.
Biden also spent a weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.
Many presidents have complained at one point or another about feeling confined in the White House. Biden already has echoed earlier presidents in comparing the experience to living in a gilded cage.

(29,715 posts)is a wonderful thing for all of us. Maybe we can start having normal weekends again. I long for it. I have one more shot and by the middle of April, I'm going to have a lunch with my girlfriend in a restaurant.

President Joe Biden has spent three of the eight weekends since his inauguration in his home state of Delaware. The White House defends those visits at a time when the administration is urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel.

The desperation of the press to create a scandal where there is none is infuriating. Biden travels on a private plane to his home 3 times in 8 wks where he visits his family, goes to church, and visits the graves of son, wife & baby & the press tries to make it an issue. Sad!

(3,261 posts)I travel occasionally to see my family too and, like Biden, I do it safely. Driving in my car alone and spending time with people in my bubble who have the same extra cautious lifestyle.

This is what failed journalism looks like.

(32,083 posts)rather than making a 300 mile (at most) round-trip flight across the Chesapeake Bay on a private jet. If he lived on the other side of DC, and went home for a few weekends, these assholes would beat him over the head with that, too. Fuck 'em.
