Even allies say the president is lacking an apparatus and direction as he sorts out just what he wants to do in his post-presidency.

He backed away from creating a third party and has soured on the costly prospect of launching his own TV empire or social media startup.
His vow to target disloyal Republicans with personally-recruited primary challengers has taken a backseat to conventional endorsements of senators who refused to indulge his quest to overturn the 2020 election.
And though he was supposed to build a massive political apparatus to keep his MAGA movement afloat, its unclear to Republicans what his PAC is actually doing, beyond entangling itself in disputes with Republican icons and the partys fundraising arms.
Ex-president Donald Trump finds himself adrift while in political exile. And Republicans, and even some allies, say he is disorganized, torn between playing the role of antagonist and party leader.

He's "not-governing" in the same way that he "governed"...he just now lacks an admin full of lickspittles and toadies to do all the heavy lifting for him. They still give lip service to him to curry favor with his mob...er...supporters...but he has no ability to organize much of anything.

(47,390 posts)I don't think he can sustain the energy and drive that has kept him going for years. And now without social media, he can't get his fix every day. All that hate fed and energized him. He is quickly becoming the tired old man that he is.

(16,925 posts)he has NO reason to be in the news since he can't make any more stupid decisions that affect the whole country - and he doesn't have his 'wittle thumbs' sending out hate screed via Twitter and unless he sets that rat's nest on top of his head on fire, there's really no reason to see him on any news coverage.
That's it - he's done.........

(47,390 posts)of instant gratification and that surely must be very addictive. He could tweet something outrageous, then sit back and watch the reaction on cable news over and over again. Just imagine how powerful he must have felt. All his adult life he craved media attention, but before the presidency, he had to make an effort to get it. Twitter was like pushing a magic button.
I think all that adrenaline from the years of campaigning and as president probably took its toll and he's finally crashed. I'm not sure he can rebound this time.

(15,380 posts)Trump cultists all over the internet always say what a good Christian he is and how he was the best president because he worked so hard, yada yada yada. I often wondered what color the sky was in their world. The man was one of the laziest, most disorganized people ever to hold office, and the people he appointed were cronies who had no idea how government worked - even if they wanted it to work since a lot of people given control over different departments were against those departments in the private sector.
I have a feeling that Trump is going to turn - even more so - into a bitter old man, and even his most fervent supporters will stop wanting to deal with him because he'll just half-brag/half-complain about the old days - how he did more than anyone else, and how no one in the history of the world was treated as badly as he was.

Hope that helps.

(343 posts)Trump is at his core, lazy. He never wanted to do the work of actually running the country. That was no fun. Watching cable TV, ripping off taxpayers, golf, rallies, pardons, tweets - now that stuff was fun! Now with his twitter shut off and his sticking taxpayers with his bills closed, he is adrift. I always thought his influence after his term as President would wane. He has money problems, legal problems, and he is too lazy to do anything beyond play golf and hold court at mar-a-lago with cronies. Good riddance.

Whether or not his sheeple will donate oh-so generously to a civil/criminal defense fund remains a big question on his tiny, addled, senile mind.

These are the people and industries who financed the RW think-tanks, propaganda outlets, and groups like the Republican Attorneys General Association, Turning Point USA, and other RW front groups.
We know some of their names: Koch and Mercer for example. There are many more we don't hear mentioned in the news or during the congressional hearings. They have now shifted their target to eliminating democratic voters' access to the ballot in many states, as they have in GA with the Jim Crow revival.
