France approves J&J's one-shot covid vaccine

France’s health regulator on Friday approved the one-shot vaccine produced by the US Johnson & Johnson, AFP has learned.

The one-shot jab against the covid infection also received the green light from regulators in the United States, Canada and South Africa.

France joined that group on Friday. In other words, the J&J jab should be used preferably in areas where the novel pathogen is “particularly active”.

The backing for the vaccine comes after approvals by the European Union and the WHO. The single-shot vaccine could be used for all adults, including people 65+ and those at risk from severe forms of the corona infection.

Here in Germany, they haven't been able to vaccinate even a tenth of the population. It is literally a criminal offense here to administer vaccine to someone without an appointment, even if they are otherwise eligible. Local law says the vaccine not used for previously scheduled appointments must be discarded.

The four prevalent legal systems in Europe:

The French system, where everything that is not expressly forbidden is permitted
The German system, where everything that is not expressly permitted is forbidden
The Russian system, where everything is forbidden, including that which is permitted
And then, finally,
The Italian system, where everything is permitted, including that which is forbidden

Yes, it's a standing joke, but one with a lot of basis in fact and experience.

and got asked to see my 'papers' - i.e. passport, four times in twenty minutes.

When when the firth guy turned up, I asked him what the deal was. He said 'You have a (plastic) shopping bag. In Germany, we do not like shopping bag ladies.

I'm a man, but I got the message. The plastic bag went straight into the trash.
