Al Franken Interviews Bestselling Author Heather McGhee On the Costs of Hate: The GOP Playbook

We have seen how right wing media working hand in hand with the Republican party are continuing to try to run the Trump playbook of simply trying to spread hate and division against African Americans (BLM Protestors), Latinos (Immigrants), Asians ("China virus&quot and women (Carlson's attack on women generals) in an effort to reignite the culture wars to get the white working class to vote for Republicans and their anti-working class policies. This is not new. Instead, Republicans are just more brazen about appealing to hate in order to oppress the working class.

Heather McGhee, a public policy expert with degrees from Yale and Berkeley Law, has written a book called the Sum of Us, which discusses how racism costs not only the victims of racism, but the perpetrators. In other words, Trump's own supporters are themselves victims of manipulation by Republicans and Right Wing Media who led to support policies that are harmful to them whether it is making it more difficult for them to vote by eliminating VBM and early voting opportunities to supporting tax cuts to the very rich and cuts in benefits.

You can see this today as Republicans to try to turn the focus on "cancel culture," "immigrants at the border," attacks on Asians as carriers of COVID-19, and BLM protesters.
