🧵The Capitol Siege was a violent bloody failed coup d'etat. Officers sustained traumatic brain injuries, cracked ribs, broken backs, eye injuries, stabbings and even death. This thread captures that violence.

(90,645 posts)The thugs were not making any distinction that day between Dem and Rep. Did they think they would be spared? Do they still?

(22,478 posts)To think they were all controlled by dump. But then again, they have all the insides needed to be controlled by dump. The racism, hatred etc. But under all of that is a bunch of people who are very hurt and unhappy.

(21,999 posts)They are responsible for their actions. No one made them do this or think this way.

(11,253 posts)They need Florence Supermax with solitary confinement for 20+ years. Consecutive sentences for all crimes. No mercy. These are the absolute worst people on earth or they strive to be. Make sure they never see light again.

I don't hold anything against them for feeling very hurt and unhappy. People can't help feelings. But it's what you do with those feelings that is really important. These people decided that they wanted to storm the US Capitol and they fully intended to murder our elected representatives. They are no better than any other lynch mob. So fuck their feelings.

(100,063 posts)When you are committing a crime, maybe, I don't know, don't take selfies on a cell phone camera and upload them to Facebook and Instagram!!! Seriously you might as well wear a sign on your back that says "arrest me!". Throwing your life away for some likes on Facebook is a really stupid decision.

(34,438 posts)see these pictures and videos, especially considering (a) how long it took for help to arrive and (b) how completely differently this would have played out and would be discussed today, if black people or people of middle-eastern origin had been involved, instead of white men (primarily).
I hope more charges are added that truly reflect how heinous their acts were, e.g., they didn't just "enter" the Capitol; they went in intending to kidnap and kill members of Congress and the VP.

(8,329 posts)These people were rabid, insane, dangerous people and they were cheered on my thousands of others. I have a hard time thinking that so many, and it is more than just those seen in these small clips are this crazed by a false idol. They were out for blood, many of them have no idea of whose blood but they wanted blood.
I am still glad this did not turn into a massacre with many people shot and killed but as I look at these people I wonder how It did not.
I have no idea how to start deprogramming them, but, we have to find a way. I have neighbors that I think are normal people, I was shocked at their attitude of what happened, and find it even more shocking because they know me, where I work, and what I do there and they were still saying things like well, they should have addressed the stolen election stuff or Are you really surprised this happened with the way things are going.
Scary to think of the murderous intent of T----'s mob.

(5,153 posts)All these fascist traitors along with their supporters funding them and our Republic executed through Democracy.
This was a failed fools attempt to overthrow the Country, and as President Bush stated clearly "you're either with us, or you're against us".
Republicans proved their not with us, they supported the terrorists' insurrection.
Every terrorist there, should do prison time. Let out the drug offenses, and fill the prison up with traitors! Everywhere.

(128,844 posts)They were proud of their craven violence back then and 100 years later, if Pence or Pelosi or any of the other "identifiable" elected officials in both chambers hadn't been ushered out and hidden, the mobs would have gone into a foaming-at-the-mouth frenzy, and done the same to them.

(4,461 posts)... to want to classify this as mostly acts of vandalism, and that there were not that many insurrectionists bent on killing - the majority of them were just caught up in the moment.
They underestimate the mind set of a mob.

Pittman said Capitol Police had asked 1,200 officers to be ready for an attack, but only four of the platoons were outfitted with riot gear and less lethal ammunitions less than a quarter of the officers. She expressed the belief that nothing could have prepared them to prevent a protest of that size overrunning the Capitol.
The Capitol, even in its layout and design, was made to be open and welcoming to citizens, she said.
"I doubt many would have thought it would be necessary to protect it against our own citizens," Pittman said in the statement.

About 1,100 troops from the D.C. National Guard and 650 from Virginia will deploy in Washington on Wednesday night, a National Guard spokesman said Wednesday night.
The entire D.C. National Guard has been mobilized and is prepared to support law enforcement officers in various locations in the city to protect property, allowing federal and local law enforcement officers to do law-enforcement missions, Capt. Tinashe T. Machona, a spokesman for the D.C. Guard, said in a statement.
He said the D.C. Army and Air National Guard have a combined 2,700 troops.

This is the type of thing that they were about to repeat, but in a different time, a different city, and against a new set of victims.

(302 posts)Stresses me out just watching. These RW cavemen are going down in history as political pawns who went off the rails for a leader who used them for his personal/political gains while taking no responsibility or suffering no consequence (yet). They did this--and will pay the price for it--in the service of a selfish, narcissistic asshole.
