A year ago this week brought many unknowns to light. How long would I be working from home? How long would theme parks (and much of America) be closed? What food and supply shortages would we see? Would we need masks? What kind? Where would we get them? Etc.
We also were led by an administration that, vainly, fought hard to play down the spreading contagion, taking it as affront to them personally (even though it was affecting the entire world). 500,000 died in less than a year, even with the worst projections (given basic remediation methods in place nationwide) of maybe 200,000 dead
That led to even further unknowns and a massive amount of backlash from the willfully ignorant that worshiped the previous administration
Today, Im still largely working from home but life is starting to get back to normal for many. While there are no widespread food shortages, there are still millions unemployed or underemployed and some restrictions are still in place.
But tens of millions are fully vaccinated and a third vaccine is available and there is light ahead, washing away the darkness and fear-mongering and hatred.
We shall prevail!
Nice summary, Roland99.
Due to some confusion at my workplace, my quarantinniversary isn't until tomorrow.
They've never completely accepted the gravity of the situation there and it has been a perpetual fight to keep from being dragged in for worthless illadvised in-person meetings. But, y'know, narcissists and their audiences.
I've largely been working on a from-anywhere solution to keep the problems we've been dealing with from being an issue in the future. I've been entirely successful.
Huge resistance to the concept from the narcissist class I mentioned above. They need their audience.

(33,113 posts)I hadn't seen your posts.
But, y'know... Rolexes, Gov C, Cat-in-the-Hat, Pepe (not the frog, the skunk), and the royal bigotry had pretty much drowned everything out.

(19,028 posts)A year ago there was so much fear of the unknown.
Now we have been through a rough year, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I've been working from home for a year, my company realized some cost benefits and is going to have some WFH or blended options going forward. I think 4days from home, 1 at the office sounds good, maybe 3-2.
