3. A friend of mine was having a really bad day a few years ago...

By the time he ended up at the jail the police probably had him on about 6-7 misdemeanor charges. MIP, drunk in public, defacing public property (think bad things happening to poor potted shrubberies), contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and I forget what else. Not a good idea, but the past is in the past. By the time he was released they'd decided to give him just a drunk in public with a tiny bit of community service to be done.

I wonder if the slap on the wrist had anything to do with how bloody and bruised his face was after they repeatedly smacked it into a wall at the jail. (This happened shortly after he ran his mouth off at an officer to the point that the officer was in tears). Hard to say, but I imagine that if he'd done something to deserve such treatment he'd probably have more charges than named above.
