CDC identifies public-health guidance from the Trump administration that downplayed pandemic severity
The analysis was done to promote public trust and ensure that the agencys coronavirus guidance is evidence-based and free of politics, a memo says.
March 15, 2021 at 2:13 p.m. GMT-5
Federal health officials have identified several controversial pandemic recommendations released during the Trump administration that they say were not primarily authored by staff and dont reflect the best scientific evidence, based on a review ordered by its new director.
The review identified three documents that had already been removed from the agencys website: One, released in July, delivered a strong argument for school reopenings and downplayed health risks. A second set of guidelines about the countrys reopening was released in April by the White House and was far less detailed than what had been drafted by the CDC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. A third guidance issued in August discouraged the testing of people without covid-19 symptoms even when they had contact with infected individuals. That was replaced in September after experts inside and outside the agency raised alarms.

(34,914 posts)We still don't even know how many longhaulers there are, or what are the long-term consequences of being infected. I really hope it's not just the underlings who suffer the consequences, as is usually the case with criminal GQPers. Those at the top are the ones who really need to pay for this.

(12,217 posts)F'ing criminal. No one expected "perfect", especially anyone with even a scintilla of insight into that horrid administration. But a low-mediocre result wouldn't have been considered a complete catastrophe, nor a dereliction bordering on criminal. People would have been resigned to "Well, what can you expect? That probably was their best effort."
While the actual result might have been in the ballpark of "best effort" it falls so short of acceptable as to give synonyms new, more biting definitions.
I hate to use this kind of hyperbole, but their approach, effort and result bordered on "Nuremburg."

(296,105 posts)The Trump administration sought to suppress Covid-19 testing in the United States last year by softening guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on who needed to be tested, a House panel said Monday.
In August, the CDC revised its Covid-19 testing guidance to say that people who dont have symptoms do not necessarily need a test even if they were exposed to an infected person. The move was widely criticized by public health specialists and politicians, who said testing asymptomatic people is an important part of identifying and cutting off chains of spread.
Assistant Secretary for Health Adm. Brett Giroir, who led the Trump administrations testing effort, at the time firmly denied allegations the White House was pressuring health officials to change the guidance.
But the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis on Monday released newly obtained emails from a political appointee within the Department of Health and Human Services that indicate he pushed for the new guidance.

(82,849 posts)"Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man" into the realm of officially established fact. Now, whether the person you're talking to believes the CDC is another issue, but at least you have solid ground to assert that the Trump administration actively worked against the scientific and public health experts in getting misinformation out to the public. Actions that continue to mess up our response to the pandemic to this day.

my bolding.
Why is the "first" document in July, the "second" in April and the "third" in August? Should they not go chronologically?

- He wanted people to think Covid no big deal. What better way than to get it and recover from it like you recover from a paper cut.
- He was down in the polls
- He claims he and Malaria have it!
- He shows ZERO proof, not even a simple "positive" piece of paper - for himself and his wife.
- He decides to do a showy helicopter ride out if WH, despite it being an easy drive. Dressed in a suit!
- He takes NO covid WH experts!! From his team of covid experts. No Fauci. No Birx ???
- He goes to a hospital, WR, that's a military hospital and they take orders from the commander in chief only. Not like a regular hospital.
- He moves into a WR private presidential suite, where he can control press coverages with privacy.
- His shill doctor has since been accused of drinking on job. He controls press coverage.
- Miraculously, he's AOK in 3 days! He walks off helicopter like nothing new.
- Meanwhile,. His wife, just days after she's caught on tape using the F word and Christmas in the same sentence, has covid too! Yet we see no proof of positive results nor any doctors that attended to her
- And now we find out they secretly got the vaccine in January?. Why?
Call BULLSHIT. I don't care if he was gasping on the way up the stairs and looked bad. He knows fully about TV makeup and how to act.
