If not, why? It's approaching fast.

(9,238 posts)The standard deduction makes it quite simple for most folks. With free tax USA you can get it done in a few minutes if you dont itemize.

(11,949 posts)Cant see any reason to push it back. It someone has issues file for an extension.
But I think we all have our relevant tax documents from last year.

(3,342 posts)In their effort to start multiple threads on this topic on a tax extension, one could have been filed already. Unless you owe the government money there is no penalty. If you owe you can make an estimated payment and reduce or eliminate any interest charges.

(11,949 posts)And your latest is an implied criticism of the president. With no specifics of why he should push back the date.
Is there a reason this year the date should be pushed back?

https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/17/politics/irs-filing-deadline-may-15/index.html
"The Internal Revenue Service plans to delay this year's tax filing deadline by roughly a month, to mid-May, according to an official familiar with the plans.
The official said the decision was made in order to allow filers more time to navigate tax situations complicated by the coronavirus pandemic.
Lawmakers, led by Democratic Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Bill Pascrell of New Jersey, had urged the move, citing the pandemic."

(6,053 posts)Seems to have been a lack of agreement by accountants actually on whether to have an extension and how long it should be.

that site is not a political one btw, but one focused on accounting.
