Coca-Cola and Home Depot, two major corporations based in Georgia, have voiced their opposition to the Republican-led effort to restrict access to voting in the state, The Washington Post reported Monday.
Major corporations in Georgia have been under pressure from civil liberties groups to stand against legislation advancing in the Georgia General Assembly that would make it harder for people to vote, disproportionately so for racial and low-income minority groups.
The Georgia Chamber of Commerce issued a statement to CNBC that expressed its concern and opposition to provisions in two bills, SB 241 and HB 531, that restrict voter access.
Coca-Cola and Home Depot representatives told The Washington Post their companies were aligned with the chambers statement.
Voting rights advocates have called for stronger action from the chambers member companies, which include Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Aflac, UPS, Southern Co. and Delta Air Lines.

(43,349 posts)last week (I think it was last week, if not the week before) I saw a panel interview on MSNBC where they said that Axios and Morning Consult deep data probing and polling found that amongst marginally attached Rethugs and then independents, one of the things that came up over and over as to why they voted for Trump was the NFL's reaction to BLM/racial justice. Wish I could find that video, but I forget what show it was on.

(9,090 posts)to help sell the legislation. rw radio has been instrumental selling the predicate for republican voter suppression for more than 20 years - such as the lies that democrats help 'illegal' aliens/brown people to vote, and it's been ramped up into millions

GEORGIA 14 Georgia 7, Georgia Tech 5, Georgia Southern 2
those are just 3 of 87 unis listed there that broadcast on 260 X-limbaugh stations, and it's likely there are more and it's possible that the atlanta falcons, hawks, and other pro teams endorse rw radio likewise
those are absurd relationships and one athlete or team or uni could start an avalanche that RW radio could not recover from as advertisers headed for the hills. it's already in 'trouble' trying to replace limbaugh

Georgia Republicans failed to overturn the 2020 election. Now theyre rushing through bills to prevent Black Georgians from voting in future elections, and big corporations like Coca Cola and UPS are funding their efforts.

(54,005 posts)No one's going to put any real dollars behind rejecting this racist antidemocratic law. They'll issue statements and condemnations, but as soon as the same R lawmakers vote to cut corporate taxes or deregulate their respective industries, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Aflac, UPS, Southern Co, and Delta Air Lines will start jizzing dollars into their reelection coffers

(2,270 posts)For Home Depot this has to be damage control after calls to boycott because of the CEO's bankrolling the many lawsuits to help Trump.
"We the company HOME DEPOT support voting rights. Do not look at the man with all the money who owns the company. That is not Home Depot's money ---it is his money and any similarity to money that came through these stores into his possession is purely coincidental."
