McConnell is scared. Democrats need to keep pushing.
Jake Sherman
@JakeSherman
Replying to @JakeSherman
McConnell says he would enact conservative policies with zero input from Dems. Lists defunding planned parenthood, sanctuary cities and nationwide right to work, concealed carried reciprocity in D.C. and 50 states

If you ever had any doubts about whether H.R. 1 and voting rights expansion was the right course for Democrats, just look at McConnell.
This push has the @GOP so terrified they're threatening to burn the whole government down if Dems let people vote.

If you talk to someone about expanding voting rights, and that person responds by threatening to block all work in government indefinitely, maybe ask why they're so committed to keeping certain Americans from exercising their rights.

(9,090 posts)signaling the party or llies are going to use artificial intelligence to transcribe and analyze large sampling of republican talk radio.
they can't replace limbaugh so it's already falling apart. he was the conductor they fed to direct the orchestra and central messaging is over. they lost their rudder for 1500 used-to-be coordinated syncd radio stations. now they're all going to start wandering.
it can still do a lot of damage if it gets digitized and analyzed the ad industry is going to want to get the racism hate and stupid off or democratize it - otherwise a lot of advertisers and the university and pro sports teams that use rw radio will desert it

Biden will sign it and that will kneecap all that voter suppression being pushed by republi-CONS in 43 states!

It's that simple. Getting HR1 signed into law is the most "do or die" thing in a long time.

(4,791 posts)However, state GOP officials have unmasked the tactics, and now hes worried counter maneuvering will stymie his plan. He has no counter. The fact is, that Mitch will do exactly what he just spoke of regardless. Now exposed, Mitch will dump the filibuster if the GOP retakes the Senate.

(7,870 posts)movement to stifle democratic and especially minority voting.
This is not grassroots at all. This is a coordinated effort by extremely well financed GOP operatives to disable voting and democratic election as the basis of American government. It is an attempt to enshrine permanent one party rule by the GOP. The effect of which would have roughly 1/3 of all voters electing the ruling party at every level of local, state, and national government by ruling out or effectively nullifying votes by nearly 1/2 of our voting population.

(2,065 posts)Legislation currently cannot pass. He declared the Senate a graveyard of Democratic bills. Its where they go to die.
Now he saw it will come to a standstill without the filibuster.
Which is it?
Ok. Keep the filibuster. Exempt the voting regulation bill from the filibuster. Pass it and move forward.
Effin hate that man.

(3,261 posts)If McConnell was making these threats in response to a liberal agenda about gun control, abortion, etc., I could see an argument about major policy differences and the risk of going to one extreme or the other in a pluralist society. But we are talking about the fundamental right to vote. This is not about policy differences or differences in values. This should be a non-issue in a democratic society.

(6,254 posts)has quite a few Rs nervous. They need to investigate Thomass wife who I am sure has lots of skeletons in her closet and do a proper investigation into Kavenaugh. I know its crazy talk but just think about Kavenaugh having to step down or face perjury charges and Thomas retiring to get the heat off his wife. I know its wishful thinking but it makes me happy to imagine.

(11,512 posts)As a minority of voters, their actual numbers are their Achilles Heel. When Republican manufactured impediments to voting are removed, their ability to win elections plummets. Just think what our country would be like if all eligible voters were allowed to vote without obstruction.

(35,932 posts)to call us coup plotters and power grabbers, and they will make themselves look like patriots and lol 'liberators'. Bullshit mountain politics is all they've got.
The corporate hype machine of austerity invented the Republican politics of spite, and bigcorps' tools will ultimately try to burn government to the ground rather than let it be of, by and for the people.
