(10,425 posts)I'd be perfectly fine if every tRump voter refused a vaccine and then got the worst version of covid. The herd needs thinned, and that's the best place. They oppose everything good, and foolishly go along with every harmful thing republicons do.
But, they don't keep to themselves, and as has been pointed out, they will be walking petri dishes for variants that might infect people smart enough to get a vaccine.
It's such a dilemma. . . If only we could move them all to Somalia. Or Russia

(10,425 posts)Back during the Bush years when you could at least have a discussion with a Republican and they would still sometimes acknowledge fact.
Their action after Obama won big changed that. The rise of the teabaggers, the clear way republicons were calibrating how to steal elections and how to elect crazies like Teenage Witch ODonnell, 2nd Amendment Angle, Quitter Palin etc. The MAGAts. The endless filibuster of everything but tax cuts for the rich.....
That hope faded more and more between 2009 and 2016. I no longer have any of that hope left. The smart ones are truly despicable, and the dumb ones are gullible saps.

(3,489 posts)first they killed them by refusing to mask up or social distance and now they are doing it by refusing to help the nation achieve herd immunity.

(25,225 posts)In this pandemic world - a 'Patriot' should be a person that needs to do their duty to get this country back to a pre-pandemic normalcy. That includes wearing a mask, social distancing, washing one's hands and getting vaccinated.
Much like people were considered 'Patriots' during our war efforts after Pearl Harbor - with the sacrifices they made to ration certain items to make armaments and foods - people need to take on some of the responsibility to knock out this pandemic once and for all.
In this present state of the U.S. - a 'Patriot' doesn't storm the Capitol to overrun our democracy or to suppress votes.
We're all in this together - and the only way out is for all of the American People to make some sacrifices in order to save us all.
What I've come to learn through this last year is that American's are spoiled brats that don't know how to make a sacrifice and they only think about themselves and not others.
What ever happened to - The Golden Rule? Treat others like you would like to be treated.

(9,958 posts)Which means all the anti-maskers are likely to start another wave of infections and deaths, once again severely straining our healthcare system. And all those people who have put off needed tests and procedures to avoid taxing hospital staff and to avoid being in a Covid ward may once again have to delay taking care of their own health needs. Fortunately, most of the elderly should be vaccinated soon, but millions of other have health needs they have postponed.
The selfishness and lack of concern for anyone but themselves have taken away any pity I might on e have felt for this group.

(16,702 posts)the libs" and protect their freedumb. It sucks, but that's the way it's going to unfold. I'm tired of their sorry asses. Drop dead already 'cause I know you have no interest in listening to science or protecting anyone but your own worthless hide. Which, BTW, you won't be able to do, as C-19 doesn't care how much of a cool, maskless rebel you think you are.

(11,637 posts)WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)In an effort to overcome the nagging problem of vaccine hesitancy among Republicans, former President Barack Obama is appearing in a new video urging them not to take the coronavirus vaccine.
In the public-service announcement, Obama looks directly into the camera and says, Im speaking today to Republicans across the country. I know weve had our differences in the past, but now Im reaching out to ask you for a special favor: to not take the vaccine. It would mean a lot to me and make me very happy.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, since the Obama spot started airing, on Monday, requests for vaccines from members of the G.O.P. have skyrocketed, with Republicans reportedly lining up around the block at some vaccination sites.
It turns out that the former President was the perfect messenger, Harland Dorrinson, a C.D.C. spokesperson, said. At the C.D.C., we are all saying, Thanks, Obama.
Speaking to reporters, Obama said that he was pleased that his targeted message to Republicans appeared to be having the desired impact. Looks like Ive still got it, he said.
