Unregistered pit bulls that killed 3-year-old boy, injured his mom lived nearby, mayor says

Two pit bulls that entered a Carteret backyard on Tuesday, attacking and killing a 3-year-old boy and injuring his mother were not registered with the borough, officials said Wednesday.

The boy’s mother remains hospitalized on Wednesday, Carteret Mayor Daniel J. Reiman said in a statement. Both dogs have been euthanized, a spokesman for the mayor said .

The dogs that got into the family’s fenced backyard on East Laurel Street came from a home on Birch Street, about two blocks away, the mayor said.

The boy was flown by helicopter to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, the mayor said. He has not been identified.

The owners should be charged with negligent homicide.

Dogs that killed boy were menace to New Jersey community, neighbors say

I know Pitbull advocates say that pit bulls get a bad rap and that it’s the owners fault if a pit bull becomes aggressive, but you simple can’t ignore the statistics. 69% of dog bites were from pit bulls according to dogbites.org (2019 stats, 2020 not published yet). How many stories do we need to read about pit bulls attacking their owners? Too unpredictable.

but it's stories like in the OP where innocent people get hurt and die which is the problem.

Yet still got attacked. That’s why I say I’d never own a pit bull myself. I’m sure there are many pit bulls who never become aggressive their whole lives, but I just don’t see how anyone can argue with the statistics of almost 70% of dog attacks being pit bulls. Sadly many breeds of dogs are abused, but you don’t read about abused labs attacking kids, or abused golden retrievers, etc (yes, I’m sure there are some cases of labs, golden retrievers, and other breeds attacking people but not a “trend” like pit bulls).

It's always pit bull, pit bull, pit bull. Never about the owners that possibly abused them. I have a pit bull and she's the sweetest baby. God I'm fucking tired of horseshit articles like this. And of course, the dogs have to die because of someone else's stupidity.

Pedigrees are scrutinized. Individual dogs carefully noted for strengths and weaknesses. Everyone in the competition dog world knows how important genes are. The Germans have a courage test for their hunting dogs. The dog MUST engage with a wild boar to be certified for breeding.

It’s a safety thing. If you are out hunting boar and your dog is a coward, you’re in trouble. Cowards throw cowards.

My Malinois bitch is a handler hard dog. Piss her off and she will climb the leash right back at you. Fuck up handling and you get bit yourself. Her dad was the same way.

Pit bulls are the gutter heaps of the dog world. Bred mostly by ignorant dumb ass people with no purpose or thought. It shows.

So my fucking baby is a gutter heap? She was a fighting dog that got rescued, had a terrible fucking life by the man who did that to them. Pit bulls are the sweetest pups that are given a bad rep because the breeder or owners that have violent dogs are shit fucking people.

But hey what do I know? My baby is a gutter heap. Welcome to my block list.

And trained accordingly. Kissing her isn’t going to make it go away. Training, direction, and honesty about what she is are required to own her.

Many Malinois are like her. She was BRED to be like this.

and they have to keep dog bite statistical info to report yearly to the state.

Last year, 65% of all of the dog bite claims reported were caused by pit bulls, and of the remaining 35% a number were suspected to be pit bull mixes of some sort. (And over 85% of the overall bites were caused by male dogs!)

A neighbor of my brother had his nose bitten off a couple years ago by his own pit bull. Named "Rage". I guess Rage was dissatisfied with lunch that day.
