172 Republicans Vote Against Violence Against Women Act - One Day After 7 Women Massacred by

‘Sex Addicted’ Gunman

172 House Republicans voted against renewing the Violence Against Women Act Wednesday, just 24 hours after eight people – including seven women, six of Asian decent – were gunned down in a shooting spree at a series of Atlanta spas by a shooter who is now claiming he has a sex addiction.

Because, of COURSE they did. The patriarchy hates women having rights... their toxic masculinity framework loves a second class citizen status for their wives and children - means they can give them a slap when they get out of line, right? Demanding the right to beat rape and murder be sooooo republican.

They do NOT promote the general welfare. Every single person part of January 6th insurrection needs prison time.
The officials involved need to be removed from office and put into prison. Put their trial on TV, so their followers can see they are lying slobs that use our Country and the people in it to benefit themselves.

and expanded in the house, with bipartisan support.

Come on. Isn't the VAWA a lot more than an excuse to rale against insurrectionists, even if we do agree they all belong in jail if only?

On to the senate, which is expected to be more of a battle, but we will pass it there too.

I hope it passes! There is no reason it shouldn't except, republicans, again.

I was trying to make the connection, many of the abusive insurrectionists being abusive at home.

There was plenty of stories of ex's, wives, and children calling to turn in their abusive men in their families, but these judges let them go back home. I'm concerned for these brave women and their children.

The Republicans have courted the White Nationalist racists with the adoption of the Southern Strategy. Unfortunately, it is not limited to the old Dixie States but has many adherents through out the nation. We are a nation that has been divided long before the election Trump who only realized that it was his ticket to the White House. I really doubt that anyone living today will see a dramatic change in basic attitudes. Much of the progress has been in reality only cosmetic and does not reflect the actual situation. I have many relatives in the South who are very adapt at hiding their true feelings in public, but when among friends and relatives are just as prejudice as their grandparents. Minorities are at best only tolerated, not accepted as equals.

Will there be attempted murder charges for them?

I understand the attention given to the deceased, but what about the wounded? Some of them will have huge medical bills, some will never return to their previous physical condition ( disabled in some way).

I keep going back to the Las Vegas attack. So many more were wounded than killed. Their life story has been changed also. The media ignores them faster and faster after each mass shooting.

It was about a year after the shooting and they did profiles of people who had been injured and whose lives had been altered as a result of physical and psychological injury.

We know that PTSD is most likely to occur after you've lived through a situation in which you could have been killed - a natural disaster, rape, being the victim of violence (domestic violence, at the hands of law enforcement, criminals, or terrorists), and war.

It is stunning that so many people expect that most people who survive a mass shooting will need some time to heal and then life will be for them what it was before.

between Sarah Everard's death, the #MeToo marches in Australia, Atlanta and VAWA (and that is just one week!), what is it going to take?

I watched a cnn clip with with Women's Equality Party head Madun Reid, and author Jonathan Katz about this. Wish everyone could see it. One thing that was discussed is using active voice rather than passive in discussing misogyny and gender violence. MALE violence against women. Mennraped women. Boys bullied girls. Robert Long murdered women.

While trying to get rid of his sex temptation he traded that for anal sex in prison. You would think Republicans would want to keep their breeding vessels safe but it's never really been about pro-life it is about domination. 10 of them also voted against giving Capitol Police the Congressional Medal of Honor, because the proclamation calls it an insurrection

We live in a country where domestic violence is one of the leading causes of death for pregnant women and the long list doesn’t end there. The GOP promotes misogyny for political gain. It’s sad but not at all surprising to see how many Republicans voted against protecting women.

Make America Great Again, and Take Back America means reverting to the early 1900's before women could vote, and KKK inspired violence against blacks was rarely prosecuted.

It was a time when white males had all the power. Ah, the "glory days" of white male supremacy. How those Trump Humpers long to return to those "simpler" days!

But those days are gone forever; they're not coming back, regardless of the efforts of so many white males across the nation to restore their preeminence.
It'll be a difficult struggle, but we will win. There is no going back to those dark times.

is huge and it's carried almost the entire political right down. RW authoritarianism is inextricably bound up with male superiority, but the female half of the human race is out of the box.

They've already lost; and as you say, there is no going back.

I'm ono lawyer, but I think it has to be ratified by a good percentage of states. At least in the case of the ERA, there seem to be enough holdouts to prevent it from passing. Not naming names, but looking at you Gulf and cowboy states.

Some of the states argue that there are already laws making women equal and state laws against violence. It's the republican's gender version of "all beatings matter".

Republican women wore scowls, disturbed that liberals wanted to see them as equals who have rights.

Just another day in the House Of Representatives.
