72 Democrats sign motion to expel Marjorie Taylor Greene from Congress

House Democrats are planning a vote on expelling Marjorie Taylor Greene from Congress as early as this week, but the move is unlikely to succeed despite 72 lawmakers already signing on.

"There is nothing more threatening to Democrats than strong Republican Women!!!," Ms Greene said in response to reports of the motion.

A supermajority of two-thirds of the House of Representatives is needed to expel a member, meaning Democrats would need a significant number of Republicans to cross the aisle.

Mr Gomez currently has 72 Democratic cosponsors for the resolution but no Republican support, according to CQ Roll Call reporter Chris Marquette.

Stripping her of her committee assignments was a strong statement that her colleagues are unwilling to work with her and she is unworthy of having any hand in the day-to-day work of Congress. It was done in the aftermath of the Capitol Insurrection when there was plenty of public support for sticking it to Qanon. That mood is now dying down. People want to move on to ending the pandemic and doing insfrastructure and reforming healthcare and the other million things that were utterly ignored for the past four years.

Expelling MTG her for her views is undemocratic. It's the majority explicitly disenfranchising the voters of a specific district and the effort will likely hurt Dems more than help them.
