(19,382 posts)The equilibrium is not settled yet and then going up a pretty steep group of steps could happen to anyone. He thankfully will be fine.

(27,823 posts)I can imagine that the leg he injured is still not 100%. He might be suffering from a bit of 'drop foot'. I've dealt with that, and you have to really pay attention.

(58,785 posts)Whatever, his stumble was not from feebleness, he's fine.
Poor guy. That'd be embarrassing to me just on general principles; he has cameras and crowd watching and a duty to reassure the whole planet.
Siwsan
(27,823 posts)I've always had a bad sense of balance so stumbles are not unusual for me. And there are days that, I swear, I could trip over a straight pin. It's just the way I'm wired, I guess.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)of course tripped playing with his dog after getting out of the shower. Which had as much of humanity as cared to visualizing it.

(40,937 posts)Hes in great shape, period. He doesnt have anything to prove. No need to bounce up the stairs. Just take it half a beat slower.
Catherine Vincent
(34,609 posts)He should stop trying to be quick/almost run when he's walking and climbing up stairs. He doesn't have to prove he's alert. Just walk normal and if right wingers complain, so what.
p.s. I knew it was coming that he would trip and possibly fall.

I'm more than 10 years younger and I climb stairs at a steady deliberate pace and hold onto to the handrail.
He was trying to emulate Obama... who was in his fifties as President.

He was bike riding like a 20-year old before his recent leg or foot injury. Biden deserves to be judged on his own merits. The idea that this 78 yr old needs to borrow someone elses identity is just...

(28,705 posts)That statement is insulting. It suggests a phoniness. There is not a phony bone in his body.
Our president is physically fit, and he's not trying to prove anything. He's just being Joe.

(2,234 posts)OUCH!!! These old ankles feel his pain.
Sadly, the RW will be all over this literal misstep. Probably drag out the Gerald Ford jokes, too. Ill just sit here and massage both ankles and murmur There, there..it wasnt you..this time..

(2,636 posts)Did he not sprain his ankle a while back?
Once you've rolled your ankle and blown those ligaments, you're prone to weak ankles. Sprained mine bad enough to require a cast in college. Ten weeks! Since then, I've rolled that ankle going up stairs, coming down stairs, getting out of my chair, and just misstepping.
He doesn't need to jog up the stairs. He won.
luvs2sing
(2,234 posts)All ligaments blown including the dreaded high ankle sprain. I still get nauseous from the memory of the pain. Ten weeks in a cast. Nine month rehab. Luckily, my doc was a sports med specialist. He started me on a training program after the first week, and I worked that program on both ankles, not just the injured one. Im not exaggerating when I say I have not had an ankle sprain since.

He tripped. That wasn't a fall. I've done the same thing. I did that when I was younger, too. Its called a trip.
Hannity will be all over this as news. Tucker will, too.
Joe is a really vital man. Great shape. But he is there for his head, not his feet.

(490 posts)Multi-part falls are the WORST. A slight misjudgment or unseen uneven surface and then stumble, trip and BANG. The best thing you can do is brace yourself for impact and then take a few seconds before getting back up. You then hope no-one saw what happened - not a luxury afforded to the President.
Trump's lack of physical vitality was only highlighted because he and his minions decided to go all in on the Sleepy / Dementia Joe slurs.

(6,819 posts)I'm far younger than POTUS and have tripped on stairs more than once the past year while wearing a mask.
You go, Joe!
Grammy23
(6,099 posts)Anyone wearing a mask (young or old) should exercise some caution when stepping up or over a curb or trying to navigate stairs. That mask cuts off just enough of your vision to obscure uneven or elevated terrain. Im surprised it has not come up more often as an excuse to not wear a mask, by the folks who are anti-maskers.

(1,876 posts)It happens. However, since we know that falls can have a more serious impact on older adults, be careful President Biden

(7,080 posts)and living upstairs. I am up and down a lot as I do my stained glass in my garage workshop. Few days ago I am going up with something in my right hand and somehow tripped and had to put my left hand out to stop my forward motion. Didn't hurt myself but realized at age 73 my reactions are not as fast as they once were and the whole thing felt slow-motiony. But I did congratulate myself on not getting really hurt and I am certainly aware now to take my time doing stuff. My poor cousin some years back, at age 74, fell in her garage (was home alone) in the evening and froze to death as the outside temp was 9 degrees. So, for you old farts out there, SLOW DOWN.
