Vaccinating someone takes seconds. It took many of those people weeks to die.

When someone's vaccinated, the job is done. Just the fact of being infected doesn't come close to guaranteeing the patient's death, even after waiting out all those weeks. It might take 50 infected patients to achieve 1 death.
