(17,003 posts)Initially it was 55+ but after the first day became 50+. My guess is none in the Trumpsters wanted to get it. All my friends jumped on it. I got mine yesterday and feelings a little out of sorts today. Not sure why he picked this county but Im sure theres $s involved.

(5,526 posts)North Florida seems to have lots of availability.
South Florida seems to have almost none.
While I feel for your plight, the timing makes sense. We were previously at 65+ for a while. He went to 60+ on Monday. That increment only added about 700k people. Florida is doing 150k shots a day. Doing the math, it will only take about a week to burn through enough people for them to need a new increment.
The problem is that the availability is not evenly distributed throughout the state. Since I am in the Monday group, I started looking. I could get an appointment for Monday in Jacksonville but there isn't anything on the horizon near me. That tells me that the distribution is badly managed because there should not be that big of a disparity. But it makes sense to open up the new cohort based on the least busy outlets so that they never hit an idle phase. It just sucks for those of you that are still buried on a waiting list.
Sorry for the frustration but it is moving in the right direction.

(46,704 posts)Fortunately, I didn't need it. But every county's Vaccine site has a phone number to call for help. He said someone stayed on the line until he got an appointment.
Also, my husband had a late appointment for one of the Pfizer sites and he said that there were only two people in line when he started, but 50 that he saw outside in the parking lot when he left. So, people are hanging around at the end of the day to see if they can get vaccinated on the spot with the leftover vaccines.

(3,299 posts)there was some federal directive to give priority to school teachers, staff, school bus drivers and day care. On the publix sign up log, if you aren't in this group of workers, and your only qualification is being sixty or older, you get bumped for most of the time the appointment window is open. I was right on it a half an hour before it opened monday, and I caught the very last appointment time on the second day. barely made it. So I can understand how many people didn't get an appointment despite their age.

(14,853 posts)... it's now available to age 40+ here, and anyone 16+ years of age before the end of this month.

At this point, I prefer opening it up to anyone eager to get vaccinated.

(1,584 posts)The FEMA sites are permanent and have the one shot and two shot vaccines. There are pop up FEMA sites that move around, which may be where you heard they were only doing second doses.

(1,584 posts)Miami Springs had almost nobody at their site - no appointments required. Same with many others. Been like that for over a week.
