Aviation (And Space) Enthusiasts; Cool video of a Soyuz MS-17 being moved from one dock to another

at the ISS.

Published today.

Basically the spacecraft equivalent of moving your car from one parking spot to another, to allow for the van full of friends and food to show up! Except that this movement takes quite a while and if a foot is put wrong, it could be disastrous.

“Space Station crew takes a spin around the block in their Soyuz vehicle”

Utterly amazing

BTW, if it isn’t clear, this is a TimeLapse. The description does not indicate total time, but I would guess it was a couple hours. No maneuver in orbit like that is done quickly.

Thanks for posting that awesome video.

If you watch (or infer) the relative position of the sun (presuming that they did not let the maneuver go back into night), it looks like they might be taking 4-5 minutes per about 20 seconds of video. (That is just a guess, though.)

I love the changes in illumination as the Soyuz goes through its dawn between the Earth and the ISS and then how it can be seen crossing into the day.

I got involved in something else since I posted that, so I haven’t had a look at the NASA website to try and learn more about how long the operation actually took, but I agree. It wasn’t a quick thing, by any means.
