I have an appointment for next week and I'm wondering what to expect as far as reactions. I've read the list but I would like to hear from people on here who have experienced the vaccine. I've read a lot from the people who have gotten Pfizer and Moderna but haven't seen any from the J&J people. Thanks in advance!

That's it for us.

For my wife and me at least.
Kids not so much.

(1,475 posts)They are both first responders. Both of them got sick. Older one had joint pain, chills, headache for 36 hours. Younger one just had fatigue but it lasted about 4 days

(9,442 posts)Did they take anything for it?

(1,475 posts)Dont get me wrong, neither was severe. My oldest did call in sick the next day but was fine 36 hours later.

(9,442 posts)I wanted to make sure I knew which one I was going to get because this is the one I wanted. I hate needles! Didn't want to have to go through it again.

(15,220 posts)One and done.
Both the needle and the side effects if any.

(11,683 posts)Two of my kids are in medicine and say there is not much reaction difference from J&J, Moderna and Pfizer shots which includes:
Side effects and safety information
Most common side effects
In the arm where you got the shot:
Pain
Redness
Swelling
Throughout the rest of your body:
Tiredness
Headache
Muscle pain
Chills
Fever
Nausea
All three do not contain eggs, latex traces, or preservatives. All reactions are strictly from the fragments of viral material initiating a immune response. The biggest concern, rarely encounter, seems to be anaphylaxis.

(9,442 posts)It won't change how I do things. I always wear a mask when out in public or even when our kids visit. We are all masked and stay outside. The length of visits depends on how badly somebody has to use the bathroom because when that time comes they go home. Haven't had anybody in our house in over a year. I still clean all items that I bring in from the grocery store and will continue to do so. It will be just one more crucial layer of protection.
One of the questions was if you have a latex allergy, which I do.
I guess there is no way to predict if there will be a reaction or how bad it will be regarding any of the three available. It's my fear of needles that has me going for the J&J. But on the other hand it hasn't been out as long to see if people are having really bad reactions to it.

(11,683 posts)I have not eaten in a restaurant since March 4, 2020. I have been to get my hair cut once, dentist once, and ready for a change- which would come sooner if we all got the shot, wore a mask, kept our socializing to a minimum. But the fools I work with won't get the shot, think its still just a little overblown flu, and often do dumb stuff to make the virus continue.
Take care and let us know how it goes!

(9,442 posts)I don't know what's wrong with so many people that they still are in denial about this. There will always be a few but this is ridiculous.

(18,402 posts)I have a latex allergy too, but just dermatitis. I get a bad rash within minutes of exposure. No problem with the vaccine.
On the other hand, I did check with the nurse as to whether the bandaid was latex. She didnt know, so she said I really didnt need one, and skipped it. Dont be afraid of the needle. Its so thin and the shot is so quick, if you dont look you wont even know you got it. Its a piece of cake (though you might/might not have a day or two of temporary reaction).

(26,324 posts)No side effects.
My friend I went with is 20 years younger and he was sick the next day. He wanted to drive his daughter to day care but his wife put the kibosh on that idea. He was clammy and dizzy.
We drove two hours to get the shot. When I got there I received the call from my partners hospital to get an overage shot. I was on the family list for no-show appointments. I had to decline because I was more than an hour away.
When it rains it pours, I guess.
I would have preferred the two shot regimen but I took what I could get.
I wonder what the experts say about getting both types of shots (once the availability is there)?

(9,442 posts)I would think they will be doing some research and testing to see about mix and match of the vaccines. I heard somebody on the radio say they were told if you already had COVID then you only need one dose of the two dose vaccines. There again I'm thinking that will have to be studied by actual scientists. There is still so much we don't know.

It hurt a little going in, and I was slightly woozy walking around the Costco for the 15 minutes before I could head home, but that was it. I got in the car, topped off the tank, and drove back.
No problems, and I'm someone who is 67, diabetic, obese, and allergic to (or intolerant of) onions, alcohol, coconut, several antibiotics, and flu vaccines.*

(9,442 posts)I'm kind of concerned about feeling a little woozy walking around the store afterwards. Luckily I have some shopping to do to distract me because those head trips can really play a number on you. I'm glad you were fine for the drive home and had no more effects.

(5,293 posts)has more to do with the fat diabetic part than the shot itself.
