The Atlanta shooter 'was a devotee of a strict church'

A devotee of a strict church

Long grew up in a one-story gray ranch-style house in the woods of Woodstock, a leafy, mostly White town about 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta. His parents, Robert and Diane Long, bought the place in 2002 for $127,500, according to real estate records.

The family was active at Crabapple, the Southern Baptist church where Aaron’s father, Robert “Buddy” Long, was a valued lay leader. Aaron and his parents attended Sunday services, afternoon group activities and Wednesday evening meetings, church members said.
...

The evangelical congregation’s minister, the Rev. Jerry Dockery, is an energetic preacher who advocated for a socially conservative brand of Christianity that, as the church bylaws put it, views “adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, polygamy, pedophilia, pornography, or any attempt to change one’s sex, or disagreement with one’s biological sex” as “sinful and offensive to God"

The SBC has a 'woman (ie male) problem'.

(Leading SBC advocate) Beth Moore made the case that women can and should be able to preach in church during a Twitter altercation this week. She also condemned widespread hypocrisy, misogyny and power abuse within the largest Protestant denomination in the United States.

Women pastors were permitted in the SBC until the 1980s when a coup by the 'women should submit to their husbands' brigade, installed a 'socially conservative' leadership.

Whose name I won't write or remember.

And then I saw the story that he had spent more than an hour in the first spa before he started killing. And he had been there before.

Obviously, the following is unadulterated pure speculation, but it seems he was sexually repressed, probably a virgin, given his religious background and his personal adherence to it.

I think he was going to these spas under the impression that they were brothels, because he's a racist, sexist scumbag. I think he finally worked up the nerve to ask for a "happy ending" and they refused, because they weren't prostitutes.

Do I need to go on?

He's not a true Christian, is essentially what they said. Aren't you shocked?

These actions do not in any way reflect the biblical character of a true follower of Jesus Christ and member of His Church. In accordance with the biblical pattern and our church bylaws, we have started the process of church discipline to remove him from membership since we can no longer affirm that he is truly a regenerate believer in Jesus Christ.

My grandparents were Primitive Baptists, very strict especially with girls/women. Years of constant exposure to the preaching of sin and hellfire and damnation could well make him think even his normal impulses are an abomination and he would lash out at those who tempted him to stray from the path of his church teachings. I'm not excusing him, just seeing how his self-loathing could lead to such a massacre.

I know many on this board aren't exposed to it much, but the absolute shame / horror / self loathing these churches can generate is astonishing.

I remember being in a group therapy situation with a mid twenties, happily married gentleman who was absolutely horrified by his porn addiction. However, he said it didn't effect his sex life and the only problem was the interplay between his religious beliefs and natural urges, but he was absolutely wracked with extreme guilt and shame over the issue.

It is a good explanation of what happened.

The stricter the religion, the greater the chance of kids, young adults acting out.

This nasty murderous white male said it was because of “sexual addiction” ...

Soon Chung Park, 74 years old; Hyun Jung Grant, 51; Suncha Kim, 69; and Yong Ae Yue, 63, died in the attacks, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Am not buying that lie ...

In the mid 70s, I worked for a criminal attorney in a small town in texas ... it was a one girl office, so I was alone there much of the time. The clients were charged with various offenses, from DUI to murder ... and rape.

The only time I was ever afraid of any of those clients was a 20-something white male accused of raping a pn 84 year old woman. It was not about sex. It was about power. He hated women. He hated older women. He was a monster and I could feel the violence within him.

It was not about sex.

also teach that masturbation is abhorrent and sinful. That could play into this, for obvious reasons.
