Russians aren't politically progressive and they're certainly not socially liberal.  Republicans love Russia because in their minds it's the ideal country: brutally authoritarian, white nationalist, racist and christian fundamentalist, with laws that discriminate against minorities, gays and women.

Putin's new class of billionaires mirrors the GOP's ideology of conflating virulent capitalism with freedom.  Like Putin's corrupt mix of plutocracy and autocracy, thieving corporatist Republicans are destroying our constitutional republic and establishing an American autocracy run by oligarchs, where all wealth flows to the top and the rights of minorities and others are trampled.
