(7,670 posts)I mean seriously, look at the shit that occurs in my local PDs:

I could just keep going and most of these news reports are just from the past year. All regarding STL metro area police departments. Within easy googling reach.
The question is, who in these departments aren't corrupt?
The question I have, if you know good police officers is, how well do you know them? Have they ever reported misconduct from their coworkers? Have they ever done such acts themselves? The issue is that police exist in a corrupt system that almost invariably corrupts even ostensibly decent people if they don't quit or get driven out of the department first.

(93,532 posts)... hell we can see that in the culture of too many LEO departments
I think this Chauvin guy is a serial killer and the PD dept he belongs to is corrupt.

(7,670 posts)I'm just saying that the fact that the PD covered it up after "investigating themselves" is something that's not uncommon in American police departments. Whether its covering up murders, rapes, robberies, etc.
ON EDIT: That's why I'm surprised you are shocked, he isn't the first serial killer police officer who's department covered for before, not by a long shot.

(15,424 posts)when something like this would have struck a cord and something done about it, directly and broadly.
We will be lucky if this particular lunatic meets justice, and there is ZERO chance any kind of systemic reform is initiated, because you know DAMN well he is not the only one out there.

(4,405 posts)If there had ever been a time when this "would have struck a cord" then we wouldn't be in this mess now.
It's ALWAYS been like this, we're just aware of it now because video and mass media make it so much harder to avoid.

(3,192 posts)After killing 4 people already and with numbers charges levied against him for using excessive force against civilians -- and for being a clearly out of control and very dangerous person -- the Mpls police sent this monster out to train new recruits, Says something very disturbing about the police force in Minneapolis.

Trigger Warning: if you scroll down, you'll see a photo of the head of the Mpls PD union at a rally with The Former Guy.

(23,727 posts)or unprofessional conduct when dealing with the public. If California can give strikes for stealing a loaf of bread,
read somewhere that happened, we can give strikes for being rude to the people who pay their wages. Make
them treat/respect every person the same way they do their own grandparents.

(26,953 posts)It's poorly researched -- because why would they want to know? -- but the best estimate is that 40% of cops are violent toward family members, and it's likely higher. The system is not reformable.

If yes... he walks.
If no... he fries.
And I think I already heard a PD rep say the hold was against regulation.
