Trump's personal plane has reportedly been sitting unused at a New York airport.
CNN reported the plane may need repairs totalling hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Trump added 24-karat gold fixtures and seatbelt buckles to the Boeing 757.
President Donald Trump's plane, a Boeing 757 decked out with 24-karat gold fixtures and seatbelt buckles, has been sitting unused and in need of repair at a New York airfield, according to reports.
CNN on Saturday published pictures of the plane sitting at Stewart international airport, an hour outside New York City. It said the plane hadn't been flown since President Joe Biden's inauguration.
The news follows reports that Trump's net worth has fallen by as much as $700 million since he was a candidate. In the wake of the January 6 Capitol insurrection, some businesses cut ties with The Trump Organization. It's been reported that Trump left office facing debts totalling more than $400 million.
During Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, his plane earned the nickname 'Trump Force One." Trump held many of his rallies in airport hangers, using the plane - emblazoned with "TRUMP" - as a backdrop. CNN reported that the plane's left engine appeared to have been removed. Engine repairs could apparently cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

(19,037 posts)This is a plane that costs $120 Million +. Its engines cost Millions. If its been sitting idol with engines that are missing parts, were not talking hundreds or thousands to get it running, were talking Millions.
These planes never sit idol, they cost too much to sit idol. No doubt hes going to sell this soon.

(4,741 posts)A 1990, in flying condition, goes for $9 million. You're right it probably needs seven figures of work, besides the engines, it's been sitting in the Northeast weather for five years - on a plane that's not worth much more than that, and is hopelessley outdated (it's been reported none of the avionics or other flight systems have been upgraded), the only thing to do is part it out, and being unable to even fly it to a boneyard is going to limit even that option.

(19,037 posts)Yeah, thing will never fly again and is probably costing him money just sitting there.
When I see some celebrities/athletes/pop stars who won their own jets, I always think they probably got bad advice. Keeping a 737, 757, or A320 maintained and ready to fly cost an insane amount of money per year. Unless theyre leasing them out when they arent using them its an expense only the ultra rich can afford.

(4,741 posts)It was an Eastern European airliner, then somebody else's toy, and then Trump got it and spent his entire budget on the interior. My understanding is that the avionics and other flight systems were never modernized; it may take a lot more than new engines and some repairs to get it recertified. Glass cockpit upgrades are not cheap...

I think I read an article that says that his PAC money could pay for repairs/updates. So he'll launder their money that way---use their "stop the steal" donations to fix it, then sell it to some oligarch (in exchange again for creating turmoil). Vicious cycle of dirty money.

(410 posts)It could just be a part availability issue, due to poor management on the part of those managing the aircraft.
