Washington (CNN)Trump's personal Boeing 757 was always the crown jewel of his wealth -- the ultimate sign that he had made it. He's used it as a backdrop for sleek photo shoots, campaign rallies, VIP tours, for shots of him eating his Big Macs and KFC, plated, with a knife and fork. Trump loved to show it off -- the customized cream-colored leather seats, gilded bathrooms, the seat buckles layered in 24-karat gold.
But today it sits idle on an airport ramp in Orange County, New York, about 60 miles north of Manhattan.
One engine is missing parts. The other is shrink-wrapped in plastic. The cost to fix and get it flyable could reach well into the high six-figures, a price-tag Trump doesn't appear to be dealing with right now. Though the current state of his finances aren't public, the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the hospitality industry home to so many of his businesses.

(9,117 posts)So many of Saddam Husseins fighter jets buried in the Iraqi desert and found again after Operation Iraqi Freedom: broken up for scrap because it either costs too much or is too much trouble to fix up and fly again.

(6,070 posts)...sitting unused for four years takes its toll on any machine. How much fire insurance you suppose he has on it?

(16,646 posts)The most expensive part is that aircraft get a constant stream of aircraft notices for updates. They most often are required to be done during normally scheduled maintenance. But now there 4 years of these beyond the regular maintenance. Worse, if they didn't pay for the plane to be configured for long term storage, there could be an awful lot of cleaning that will need to be done because of fluids that have been sitting in various fuel/hydraulic/oil lines.

(4,358 posts)From presidential Boeing 747s and 757s flying as Air Force One and his own notable VIP airliner, Donald Trump was recently spotted boarding a mere run-of-the-mill everyman type private jet. The former commander-in-chiefs ride would still be out of reach for most of us, yet, its the type of aircraft where you need to bend your neck if you stand-up. You might even feel your hair brushing up against the cabin ceiling.
An image yesterday in the Daily Mail shows Trump steadying himself as he prepares to climb onto a private jet departing New York City. Unlike the past four years, there were only a few steps to navigate.
The picture features Trump entering what appears to be a Cessna Citation X, a super-midsize business jet. The full aircraft isnt visible, but tail number N725DT is a 1997 version registered to the Trump Organization.

(4,448 posts)They don't come any larger or luxurious than AF1.
No other nation, corporation or individual has anything that nice.
Obama had to make a big downgrade too.

(4,448 posts)you are going to have alot deferred maintenance.
Honestly high 6 figures sounds low. A 757 has high 6 figures maintenance every year when it IS used.
It's why one can buy an early model used LearJet for what you would pay for a luxury car.
It's basically almost free until you need to park it or fly it.

(43,181 posts)Former President Carter shakes hands with everyone on his Delta flight
Ben MutzabaughUSA TODAY
Theres another airline video going viral. This time its for all the right reasons.
Former President Jimmy Carter is at the center of the latest video, shot Thursday (June 8) onboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Washington. A smiling, gregarious Carter is seen walking down the aisle of the jet, shaking the hand of every passenger he can reach.
"His enthusiasm was authentic and humble, in a way that made things feel less heavy for a moment," passenger James Parker Sheffield, who shot the video, said to Atlanta's WSB-TV.
The 92-year-old Carter was on the flight to travel to Washington to attend the funeral for his former national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, according to The Associated Press.
