I had the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine one week ago. Unfortunately, I had a sore throat and sniffles and felt really tired on Thursday. I decided to call out, forgetting that you can't just call out anymore. My employer required a COVID test, so that led me to a mini-ordeal of finding a test that would allow me to get back to work as quickly as I could. Walgreens said results would be in 3-5 days. Ugh. Community testing sites around me said 48-72 hours. Medexpress said 24-48 hours, and usually results the next day. Staff at Walgreens told me that Medexpress would be expensive, but I went there anyway. I only had to pay a $20 copay, which I'm pretty sure I can get reimbursed for.
They did the up the nose test--which made my eyes water---and I sat for 15 minutes. Instant results were negative. I went home and slept for 3 hours, then started to feel better.
Felt fine yesterday (Friday) and they called with the results (also negative). I kind of was feeling that I had a cold or something and didn't even think to worry too much until I was told I had to take the test.
I was worried that the vaccine might have given me a positive test result, but thankfully it did not.
So I only missed 2 days of work and inched closer to my second dose (April 3rd). I cannot wait!

(29,585 posts)We have had some pollen outbreaks and I got a little stuffed up, which freaked me out, but then I realized I hadn't had a cold or flu in a year!

(12,535 posts)I think I got my cold from delivered items to my home.
I think that's what happened---I've been good with my mask, keeping windows open when it was decent out, etc. I can't wait until I can get a regular old cold and not worry so much!

(13,607 posts)calling *out*? Must have been after I retired. We used to call *in*.
I had to Google that to see if I was wrong---I guess I've been wrong for a while, most people do say "Calling in sick". Not sure when/why I started saying "Calling out." I think I merged my work conversations "so and so is out today" and calling work when it was me.

(317 posts)Got the Pfizer vaccine (first dose) a week ago Thursday and 6 days later on Wednesday I started getting a sore throat and was more tired than I think I've ever been and I just basically felt like crap. This went on for a few days. I started thinking maybe I caught Covid and thought I'd give it another day and see how things went before going for a test, today I feel a lot better but still a little tired. I could not find anywhere that said that was a side effect of the vaccine after a week but today I was thinking it most likely was and now after reading this I'm thinking even more so.

It is strange that it would be a delayed reaction, so I'm thinking maybe I just got a cold or something. Plus the weather is all over the place here in Delaware, and I usually feel funky during big weather changes. Maybe it was a combo
I just can't wait until 2 weeks after my second dose on April 3---that's when we're supposed to have max immunity. A couple friends were really wiped out by their Moderna second doses, so I'm hoping my Pfizer second dose is not an issue!
