why Republicans are siding with Vladimir Putin over the President of the United States?

(this thread has about 10 sections. I havn't posted each tweet. But it's a very interesting thread.)

Hi, @JohnCollins_KP

I can answer!Happy woman raising one hand

1/The modern Republican Party + Putin = True Love because have common goals.

For decades now, Russia has been “beckoning” to America’s far right wing, presenting Russia as the savior of white majority rule. (Timothy Snyder’s word)

2/ This includes Russians infiltrating the NRA and helping radicalize the NRA as a right wing extremist group—but that’s for another post.

The GOP Russia love affair has been evident for some time.

3/ Remember when Tucker Carlson said the U.S. should “rethink America’s alliances.”

And when Sen. Rand Paul went to Moscow to “open lines of communication“? https://abcnews.go.com/International/sen-rand-paul-meets-russian-senators-moscow-invites/story?id=57057225
And when Guiliani attended a pro-Russia conference? https://thinkprogress.org/why-is-rudy-giuliani-scheduled-to-speak-alongside-a-sanctioned-russian-official-9133667cabbf/

4/ Here is Katie Hopkins (with pal Ann Coulter) saying “Putin rocks.” https://rt.com/uk/429777-katie-hopkins-russia-multiculturalism/

She praises Russia as being “untouched by the myth of multiculturalism and deranged diversity.”

Putin’s regime, remember, is built on homophobia and fear of those who are different.

6/ Putin would like:
--Civil War in the U.S.
--The U.S. to become a Russian style oligarchy

The GOP imitates Putin's tactics. He's their hero.

Putin entirely privatized the Russian government and put all wealth into the hands of a few white men.

10/ What is happening is that Putin is leading the way toward the kind of society the Republicans want: An oligarchy in which government is privately owned and privately controlled by a few wealthy men.

Sometimes I think we're better off now that the GOP isn't trying to hide it.

Simplicity: As in a noun where the quality or condition of being easy to understand or do, like, "for the sake of simplicity, dumb white people will rule."

They are simple and awful, but their threat is large and real. We need to acknowledge that, stay aware of it, and be willing to battle it where ever we find it. It is a truly terrible believe system and needs to be defeated where ever we can.

Hopkins wouldn't have any idea that the Soviet Union was saved by Siberian troops that didn't even speak much Russian. Tough Asians that could fight well in extreme cold. Millions of them.

If you can't beat 'em, corrupt them.

Revolutions roiled continental Europe for most of the 1800s, from the Napoleonic Wars to the Revolutions of 1848, to Garibaldi and into the 1900s. There's nothing set in stone about democracy. We have to defend it and support it. Fascists are always trying to grab its power, old royal houses always want to return to power, and somebody's seeking competitive advantage and somebody else is trying to make money from it, and bankers are willing to finance it.

The world is hopeful that national boundaries are melting, that open societies will defeat dark impulses, that prosperity can uplift everyone. But there are still places and powers without much or any of that, and they want advantage.

Running a successful campaign is exorbitant. The GOP had been co-opted by Russian cash and that cash buys a lot of loyalty, as we are seeing with elected Republicans parroting Russian talking points. It also doesn’t hurt Republicans tend toward authoritarianism to begin with.
