5. It really is unbelievable that after over half a million deaths in this country

There are so damn many people who are still blatantly irresponsible and clueless. They think they are immune? And then there are the rest of us who take every precaution, yet they put us in danger. Those crowds of people aren't going to remain on that Florida beach forever. Even in my small upstate NY county, just got an update that there are 121 active cases, 11 new and 3 come from local schools and quarantines are now in place. What's going to happen when these idiots return to their communities??

They make up around .4% of deaths. Most are willing to take the risk. Keeping young people locked at home for over a year was never going to happen. Now it is selfish behavior but it can't be surprising to anyone.

14. For the original strain here in Sweden, it was way under .4%, the bottom half (birth to 40yo)

of the country,(a little over 5 million people out of 10.1m total population here) had a total of only 27 deaths pre variants (most with multiple comorbidities). We never fully locked down (still have not) and the schools up to high school never closed down (some high schools and unis did close for a spell). We had one death (and that was a girl with multiple comorbidities) in the 5 years old to 19 years old schoolchildren cohort until the variants came.

that 27 death figure has risen to 65 (891 to 2,145 in US population adjusted totals)

Also the intensive care hospitalisation rate has went way, way up (420 versus just a handful before for the under 40yo total cohort).

And we are doing far better atm (and have been for ages, we have dropped from the 4th highest deaths per million at peak to now 25th and still dropping, thankfully) in terms of growth rate than most other EU countries, so watch out is all I can say.
