The family of Texas Roadhouse CEO Kent Taylor says he died by suicide while experiencing unbearable symptoms related to COVID-19.
Texas Roadhouse announced the death of Taylor, who founded the Kentucky-based restaurant chain in 1993, on Thursday.
In a joint statement provided to McClatchy News, Texas Roadhouse and Taylors family said he killed himself after experiencing ongoing symptoms, including severe tinnitus, after he was infected with COVID-19.

Taylor will be remembered for giving away his entire compensation package to support frontline employees, the company said.
This selfless act was no surprise to anyone who knew Kent and his strong belief in servant leadership, Greg Moore, lead director, said in the companys statement. He was without a doubt, a people-first leader. His entrepreneurial spirit will live on in the company he built, the projects he supported and the lives he touched.

(4,935 posts)Its been so long that I can't even remember when it started. Thing is that I doesn't much bother me. It doesn't interfere with my regular hearing (even now that I wear hearing-aids), doesn't keep me from sleeping at all (pretty much nothing keeps me from sleeping!). I must have gotten used to it a long time ago....but I can see where if you've never had it and, depending on how it affects your hearing and functioning, it could be devastating.

He's a well known businessman and used to own and manage a local grocery store. Actually named Mr. Whipple. Here in Idaho, not everyone would be willing to admit having that hard a time with COVID.

(10,828 posts)It started with a dramatic hearing loss after swimming which added to a loss I'd had decades before from mastoiditis. Painful!
In the beginning the buzzing/roaring/high-pitched squeals were maddening. Over time, the noise level has flattened and I've learned to push the noise into the background. However where ever I go, what ever I'm doing, I'm encased in white noise.
That being said, I've read that some people cannot sleep (I'm a periodic insomniac but it's rarely the tinnitus), cannot concentrate or focus and are literally driven nuts from the persistent, high-level noise.
I have it in both ears but it's worse in my nearly deaf right ear. Also worse during allergy season.
