Biden hampered by lack of confirmations

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 03/21/21 07:00 AM EDT

President Biden is facing a convergence of challenges without a full complement of agency leaders who would typically oversee efforts on the ground to address them.

The administration is searching for solutions to the growing border crisis, but the president has yet to nominate officials to lead Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) — three key components of the immigration system.

Biden’s trip to Georgia on Friday after a gunman killed eight people, most of whom were Asian, came amid the absence of a nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), which typically assists with investigating such incidents.

And the president has yet to announce his pick for commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), an agency that plays a critical role in determining the safety of vaccines and drugs to treat COVID-19.

Since immigration is a critical issue facing the administration, you'd think the transition team would have nailed down nominees for these positions.

He's got a lot on his plate. I get that but the confirmation process isn't the problem here.

Joe needs to move on getting folks up into position to get approved 😬

11. Agree. But Biden is also lagging on nominating

To be clear, he's been handed a massive shit sandwich.

And his transition team was monstrously blocked which prohibited his folks evaluating the status of every agency and nominating the best people (for ex recognizing the EPA needs a science wonk, while TSA needs a diplomat, and Transportation needs a "details person" and not an "ideas person" etc etc etc)

I understand tho, that Rs are going to obstruct.

I can't wait until he "releases the Kracken".

That "liberal" media sure likes to portray Democrats as feckless, weak and powerless, don't they?

If we don't pass HR1 I don't see a union of states the way the constitution defined it, we'll see Belarus.
