My life has been stress free the last few years being without Facebook...with the exception of me telling my entire trump praising family to get the fuck out of my country if you refuse to Acknowledge my president...not my best moment, but it felt sooooo good to say.
Anywho, so I get on my next door app from time to time, and the local Mississippi cretins have been tamed... until last night....log on and first post I see is from a Pam who is making an announcement regarding her petition she has started.....to overturn the new Mississippi flag........ I stopped with the comments after reading one who was trying to make their case to keep the confederate flag by comparing it to The Jewish not burning down Auschwitz. 🤔🤨

Man bitching about having to go to the grocery across the street from post office to buy stamps on a Saturday.
First comment...well Obama took all of the stamp machines out of the post offices so blame him. 🥸🙃
I dont have the patience or composure to deal with ignorance. When I finally do its something very harsh and I feel rejuvenated after saying it. But it NEVER makes a difference, so I refuse to put myself in that situation. Its not good for anyones health.
Soooo yeah...we have malarkey by the truck loads down here if anyone needs any? Free!!!

(54,473 posts)I know a guy, sort of a friend, although he is a famous demon of the nut case right (sometimes, fate intervenes in ways we don't get). His name is Richard Viguerie, and he is so far to the right, he is dire danger of falling off the right end of the earth, which I'm sure he thinks is flat.
After the 2016 election, I heard him making some statement claiming that Hillary Clinton had only won 57 counties in the whole USA. Now, I don't usually follow that crap, but as it turned out, I had found out earlier that Breitbart had made that up, and that it wasn't near true. I told him ,and he seemed surprised. I said, "Richard, that was made up by Breitbart. That's where you got it, isn't it?" He admitted it was. Even he knew better than to use them for reliable information, and corrected himself. He's still a total right wing nut case, even if he is the most cordial right wing nut case you will ever meet.

(31,893 posts)trump is responsible for the death of over half million people but the big problem for that ass-clown is that Obama made him walk across the street to buy stamps. Yeah, that sounds about right.

(22,509 posts)about that. What did come up was Obama removed many mail boxes and postal jobs because the post office was loosing so much money.

(1,868 posts)My friend had a medical retirement in around 2000, and moved back to AL where hed grown up.
He didnt last 6 months. I figure MS is about the same.
He said the general population down there had an IQ south of room temperature, and in the six months he spent there, it had dropped about 10 points. I feel for you.

(90,941 posts)The first was in my former town, where a group of Muslims finally got all their funding, building and zoning permits together to build a community center. Since the University is only a few miles away, this is a good move. I was also interested because the empty lot was about a half-mile from my own house.
Someone on NextDoor was alarmed My response was to point out that there have been Muslims in America since Colony days, and also to quote from George Washingtons Treaty of Tripoli, 1796.
I also suggested that since they were going to be a community center (not a mosque, although I think a small chapel was going to be included) this might be a good opportunity for the community at large to do some friendly outreach and get to know their new neighbors.
Not everyone loved it, but I got some gratifying replies supporting my viewpoint. I am only sorry we moved away before completion there is an interfaith coalition in the town and I have an idea they stepped up.
The second time I spoke up was in my new town. Some were in a froth over the potential removal of the statue of Junipero Serra from in front of city hall. While the Spanish friar is indeed a historic figure in our state, he arrived accompanied by Conquistadores, and that was the beginning of the destruction of Native culture. This is the 21st century, and many are now rethinking those old events. My new town contains one of the missions founded by Serra, and it is still functioning. I suggested the city make a gift of the statue to the mission, since hes their saint.
People really did not like my idea, on the whole, but maybe some of them thought the issue through.
I have decided NextDoor is not where I want to spend my time. My two interactions were benign, but since moving here I have tried to keep my political opinions to myself, and seriously dont want to argue with random strangers who can see my name.
I periodically check in for coyote and bobcat sightings (they eat pets) and the occasional complaint about pit bulls with oblivious owners (we occasionally change our dog walking route based on that). NextDoor is a good source for community announcements the County has used them as one outlet for COVID information. But politics? No thanks.

(5,074 posts)I have a theory about people in the deep south. That includes my sister and her whole "born again" family. The UV rays in the sun down there has fried a lot people's brains. I have to be careful from northern Georgia on south. I break out in hives everywhere the sun hits my skin and I have been told it is because of the UV rays. I always wear a hat and slather on the sun screen but the people that actually live down there are so used to it that they don't bother and it has affected any that are susceptible by eating their brains. And you are right. There is no use riling yourself. They long ago lost the ability to think for themselves so you would be wasting your breath.

(5,470 posts)who are annoyed that the world isn't like they think it should be.
They look for someone or something to blame. Rather than just accept and adjust to things as they are.
Social media of the low level sort just gives them an outlet to vent their frustration, and there will be plenty of others that help them to amplify their outrage.
Not good for their mental health or yours, or mine, to even enter into that world.
I bet they voted for MF45 thinking he cared enough to remake the world into their ideal, deluded fools that they are!

(2,449 posts)Your post reminded me of the constant dilemma I'm in here in Texas...a very red community. My once rich social life was filled with dancing...unfortunately most of those I danced with are Trump supporters. How can ballroom dancers support Trump? I don't know, but there you are. And there are MANY of them. I am only one person, but it seems the least I can do is shun these cretins and let them know why. Of course, I'm the one left without a social life. I am itching to dance, but I truly want nothing to do with those people whether they can dance or not. I guess my husband and I will carry on and I'll just be a snooty bitch to those Trumpers. There are so many people that have suffered so much under the Trump shadow. Democracy has suffered so much. I have to do something, however small it may seem, in my daily life. If we ever get back to life, that is We can't just ignore what is happening, however tempting.

(66 posts)It's nice to know there are so many who can relate. The sad part is the facts have always been in plain sight, and I've lost respect for a lot of people after this election, but also gained some for a few. Now that I have found some competent people to have a conversation with, maybe my anger issues and mood swings I have developed will suppress a tad bit.
Thank you for being so welcoming and sharing your experiences with me. Looking forward to future discussions.
Cheers!
