Yesterday I received a letter from the IRS letting me know that my stimulus....

Has been reduced to $600 due to "unpaid child support"! I've never had to pay child support, both my kids were adults when we divorced, five years ago and my ex is the one paying alimony. Arrrrgh! There is a number to call but i bet it's going to be hell getting through.

left-over rule from the last 'administration' regarding the 'sanctity of marriage' - apparently you weren't as 'family-oriented' as our last beloved leader was.........

(Sorry - I tried to get the whole way through that without losing it - couldn't be done. However, I'm guessing it IS something that IQ45 and his mis-administration has done that is screwing you over. Sorry for the grief they're putting you through.......)

Also, check that the phone number is real by googling it. Could easily be a scam.

I just received a letter stating that they 'miscalculated' and will be reducing my monthly check by $500/month (for the rest of my life). THAT definitely will pinch !!

I need to find someone to represent me in an appeals request.

seems like it was somehow miscalculated from the start and they are now setting the amount that recoups their money and sets the correct amount going forward.....it's a correction, not a penalty

Everyone should create an account with Social Security - easy to do - and see for themselves their expected amount to receive at different ages.

On retirement Social Security for two years. At the end of each year, usually in December, I get a notice form them telling me the new adjusted payment for the follow year. It is based on a % that the SS Administration sets. Not sure if it is set to inflation or what.

Each year, my payment increases about $20 per month.

Could that be what you are referring to?

You need to make sure someone hasn’t messed with your SS account or there isn’t some sort of penalty against your account or something. Maybe a court accidentally applied some penalty against your SS number instead of the real person who isn’t paying their child support!
