Trump is simply a not-very-bright, self-important braggart who lucked into being born to a wealthy family, and developed the knack for failing upward. I can listen to recordings of his speeches and simply roll my eyes at his thundering idiocy and the way other thundering idiots respond to him.

Listening to a recording of Jim Jones is a profoundly chilling experience. Although Jones falls into some of the same word-salad cadences as Trump, his message is horribly frightening. I don't think it's hyperbole to say it's like listening to Satan. Concrete Blonde used a snippet of one of Jones's last speeches in their song "Jonestown", and I find myself shaking by the time the speech gives way to the song.
