Perhaps those of us who had no post vaccination reaction could have possibly been, or become, asymptomatic carriers, if we had been infected and/or had not gotten the vaccinations. People who had the harder reactions perhaps would have manifested symptoms to the degree of their reaction to the vaccinations.
I do know that I was exposed to Covid, early in the pandemic. My brother had it and was at my house, twice, when he would have been very contagious. I never became ill but he had a really rough go. He got the vaccine and had hard reactions to both jabs. I got the vaccines and had zero reaction to either.
Anyway, that's just where my mind wandered, today.

(273 posts)The better your immune system the more reaction you have to the vaccine and it's why older people have less reaction and younger people have more of a reaction. Not sure if it's actually true.

(26,257 posts)I've always had a strong immune system and rarely ever get sick. Even when I developed Shingles, a few years back, it was more of an uncomfortable annoyance than anything else. Very limited rash/blisters and absolutely no after effect. I went through a harsh series of vaccinations when I was in the Navy, and never reacted to a single one. Not even the small pox vaccination.
My brother is quite the opposite. He seems to get flattened by things I'd shrug off.
Oh well, just food for thought.

(273 posts)Being a type 1 diabetic I always worry about my immune system but I have not had the flu in about 20 years nor a cold in probably 6 or 7 years, but I did have more of a reaction to the vaccine than most I know. After extensive reading about these vaccines it seems they cause inflammation which triggers your body to create antibodies, so it very well could be how your body reacts to inflammation but who knows.

(26,257 posts)My APN said my daily dosing may have helped mitigate my body's reaction to Shingles. I had VERY limited blistering and rash. I have friends who suffered horribly and were left with scars. I was uncomfortable but able to carry on, as usual, and have no residual signs.

(31,963 posts)My son was here last May two days before he exhibited symptoms of Covid. He ate dinner with us and I hugged him when he left. Hes young and healthy and had fairly mild symptoms ...Fever, massive headache, fatigue, for about 3 days. No one else here got sick. I was really worried wed all get it! I have had my first shot (Pfizer) and am scheduled for the second one April 1. We will see!

(26,257 posts)Still going to be wearing a mask when I'm out and about, but I'll feel less anxious about my outings.

(31,963 posts)People in my area are pretty good about wearing masks in stores, but boy oh boy the restaurants are jam packed every evening. Im still only getting takeout for the duration.

Reactions to vaccine is an immune system kicking in. Younger people have stronger reaction to vaccine, yet obviously older people tend to do a lot worse with actual covid infection.

(5,222 posts)I had a moderate reaction. But relatively healthy. Hubby had no reaction. However he has a lung condition that would have made any virus deadly to him. Thank God we were spared and had no contact with other people for the past year! Now vaccinated. We are so very lucky!

(17,615 posts)..however im 70 and have no smallpox scar either because as a baby it wouldn't take on me.

(26,257 posts)I still have a big scar. When I was in the Navy I was re-vaccinated. Most people had at least a mild reaction but I didn't even develop redness or a small welt. They thought something went wrong and wanted to try again. I convinced them not to.
