Thought people would like to know how it went for a person who had covid and then first shot.
My body mounted a pretty hard defense to the shot.
Hour twelve or so after shot I continued with high temp 101-102, body aches and pretty bad chills for about 12 hours.
I am now about 36 hours post shot, have low grade fever, body aches and chills gone. Feeling pretty good.
Now I gotta do it all again in one month.
Worth every temp spike chill and ache to get inoculated.

(The article below indeed doesn't mention reactions to the 2nd dose among the previously infected.)

But while initial research suggested that individuals were more likely to experience these symptoms after the second dose, experts now say that those who previously had COVID-19 whether knowingly or not may end up reacting more strongly to the first dose.
One study released in early February from Bar-Ilan University in Israel found that the immune response created after the first dose of vaccine in those who previously had COVID-19 was "so effective" that it "opens the debate as to whether one dose of the vaccine may suffice." Another study published in the Lancet found a 140-fold increase in antibodies after the first vaccine among those who had previously had a COVID-19 infection versus those who hadn't.

(15,204 posts)...and both were very sick for a couple of weeks after coming home. They wondered if it might be COVID, and quarantined as if it were, but never got tested to find out because testing back then was practically non-existent (despite a certain orange clown's claims otherwise).
Only one of them has qualified for getting vaccinated yet, but he reacted pretty strongly. I've wondered since then if that's a sign that he and his wife actually had COVID last year. While the odds seem kind of low for them to have been among the few to get infected so early on, when the news of COVID was just breaking, they had been in crowded places like Disney World, and the plane trips there and back, with no one masking or distancing yet.

(32,673 posts)had a terrible year. Memory problems and tired all of the time. A couple of weeks ago he got his first shot and now all of those problems are going away. He has his memory back.
Hope that works out like that for you.

His folks are in their 80's and did fine with their 2 shots, so hopefully?

(36,221 posts)Cause I think for those who did not have an easier go on first shot.

(5,125 posts)So your immunities developed initially are giving the shot hell and your body is the battle ground?

(28,858 posts)I just got my first Moderna shot Thursday and had no reaction
except a very sore arm the next day. By Sunday even that
pain was gone.
I'm expecting more of a reaction with my second shot next
month, but who knows...

(36,221 posts)I have read and been told those who had covid get pretty strong reaction to shot.

(36,221 posts)And everyone in the house had it.
I would say I started on December 23. I had no Xmas or New Years. That was the date I had started with stomach issues.

(57,073 posts)Sorry to hear your reaction was so unpleasant, but I've read that means your immune system is really working!
Are you signed up for CDC's V Safe reaction tracker? It requires a smart phone & only takes about 1 minute to reply to the daily link to a brief survey they text.
There is a text box to enter other info. I'll bet your previous COVID infection & shot reaction would be helpful!

(27,556 posts)I was sick for 30 days and in ICU Sept/Oct. I still have long Covid symptoms.
I tested positive for antibodies in Dec.
Got my first dose of Pfizer on St. Patrick's day. Pretty much experienced what I usually get with a flu shot: mild fatigue. The lone exception: my arm was more sore.
Everyone I know who has gotten it has been all over the map with how they react.
And no, my long Covid symptoms didn't go away.
Glad you are on the mend, though...

(6,588 posts)...you have a stronger immune system response. Which makes perfectly logical sense, given how antibodies & our immune system works.
If you've already had it, you already have antibodies, & those antibodies react to the first shot & you have a stronger reaction to the first shot.
If you've never had it you don't have the antibodies, & your immune system creates antibodies in response to the first shot. Then, those antibodies react to the second shot & you have a stronger reaction to the second shot.

(36,221 posts)Maybe by the time I have to get second shot it will be one dose is enough. I read that in France they are only giving one to persons who had covid. There was no benefit with the second.
