I just want to note that the fake name @krispykreme used for its #COVID19 free donut promotion is "Jane Dough" and that's incredible.

(15,081 posts)I love a good donut, but theirs are too greasy and too sweet.
So I should be safe. Also - I don't think there's a store anywhere near me.
Best donut ever? Sugar Raised Donut from Johnnie's in Lafayette, California.
Go ahead - tell me I'm wrong!

(33,643 posts)Had a lot of doughnuts from the little shop in Alamo Plaza (where Alamo Safeway is) cause my dad was donut lover and lived right by there for about 12 years. I forget what it's called offhand. Not a big chain though I know that.
Ever go to Bagel King in Walnut Creek back in the day?

(Probably a childhood thing; Krispy Kreme was the only shop in my town, and the only thing that made Sunday School bearable was knowing that was the next stop.)

(21,427 posts)Tim Horton here. But a 7/11 near me has Krispy Kreme donuts so I have tasted one. I agree that they are too sweet and greasy. Don't care much for donuts anyway. But I do love old fashioned, crusty cream puffs filled with Bavarian cream (NOT the white stuff), with fudge frosting on top. Only one place in my area makes them so I do not go there too often because I can't pass them up. They are just like the homemade ones that my mother used to make.

(15,081 posts)My Dad and I used to go out to lunch in North Beach in San Francisco and we would always walk over to a special bakery that made Italian Cream Puffs - as with your treat, not filled with the white stuff, but Italian cream (custard with a subtle rum flavor). They were covered in powdered sugar and we would take them back to the car and eat them there! Such lovely memories! Miss my Dad every day.
wnylib
(21,427 posts)a custard (Bavarian cream) filling, but without the rum. Ethnically, it was German style. My great aunt, who was born in Germany and came to the US with her parents as a young child, lived with us when I was a child. She taught my mother how to make them. The local baker who makes them is Ametican born, of Italian and German heritage.
They are scrumptious!

(17,427 posts)your comment make me reflect on our sick pup who isn't eating much. A couple of years ago I'd be coming back in the wee hours from a gig and he would dance and zoomie to see if I had a Wawa donut. I need to buy him some doughnuts, for he is indeed in hospice.

(3,401 posts)Giving him his old treat will certainly give him temporary pleasure, and I wish I could see it.
I have been pricking my finger so long I dont even feel it. All my foods have to be prepared special, no carbs, no preservatives, and yet every 3 months my insulin still increases. The red hot doughnuts sign in the window of a Krispy Kreame was always a favorite Saturday morning treat for me and my boys when they were little. It isnt just the fabulous taste of the doughnuts but the nostalgia of the whole experience. ... that plus blackberry cobbler with homemade ice cream at a family picnic.

(17,427 posts)Krispy Kreme brings back memories to me of riding through Richmond, Virginia on our way to camp out on the Blue Ridge. 6:30 am and the aroma from the cooking donuts was incredible. My dad would buy multiple boxes of them. Winter tent camping and high caloric food go together. Musta been in the late 50s.
The little man was spoiled rotten before. We can't spoil him more, but we're trying. He was grousing on the couch and I picked him up and nestled him in the crook of my arm (he is tiny) and we went out and smelled the night air. It immediately chilled him out. I'll bet if I brought in a fresh doughnut that nose would go in the air. Smell is the one sense that is not failing him.

I dont think this is physically or psychologically a good move, and hardly altruistic. Just a campaign to lure you into their shops ... most people will buy something else while there. I dont mind a doughnut once a year, but if people go back every day or every week or even every month, our national health profile is going to look pretty bad.
PS: The hospital where we got our vaccines does not issue cards ... so Im safe from the doughnut lure anyway.
William Seger
(10,778 posts)That might be a problem going forward. I've heard that airlines might start requiring vaccination proof, for example.
frazzled
(18,402 posts)The 2 Pfizer vaccines I received are listed there, with dates, on my chart. I just printed out a copy, highlighted the 2 Covid vaccines, and put it in a plastic sleeve. Seems just as good as a card, I guess. It has my name, hospital name, detail of vaccine received, and date.

But hey, if it gets people that wouldn't get a vaccine to get one I wish more companies would do something.
They won't lose money, people will buy the frosted ones for their kids, coffee drinks etc and give a big tip because they are doing a good thing.

As for all the party-poopers, geeez. I see this as little different from the free doughnut I collected whenever the football team won (and I would have to ask someone, as I am not a sports person), the free tacos, free birthday dinners, etc. If a company chooses to reward/bribe people for a specific action, their choice. Nobody is forcing anyone to eat those things.
