(18 posts)The Trebek legacy is far too precious to lend to this faker even for five 30-minute episodes. PLEASE replace him!!!

(29,686 posts)There has to be someone good out there. And it's not Katie Couric.. She sounded like a second grade teacher cheerleading her kids. "Good job!". "Wow, you.guys are all so smart!"
I didnt care for Katie or Ken. The producer guy was good.
I thought Austin was going to host? That should be fun! I thoroughly enjoyed him as a contestant.

(25,530 posts)I was not looking forward to her hosting at all, but she was surprisingly good, and seemed to bring a fresh attitude to the job without making it all about her. The teacher thing didn't bother me, maybe because I am a teacher (LOL) and find the attitude familiar and calming. The more I thought about it, though, it wasn't so much that she was acting like a teacher as she was acting "feminine", and we are just NOT used to seeing a woman host Jeopardy. If that is her true personality, she was just being herself as men are always allowed to do. Don't know if any of this makes sense, but I guess I felt bad about my ill feelings towards her at the beginning. Also, the rightwing hates her and was posting all kinds of hate comments on the Jeopardy twitter page.

(25,530 posts)When you think about it, a teacher's personality and mannerisms are designed to make people (kids are people) comfortable and willing to try and do their best. Not a bad goal to strive for on Jeopardy or anywhere else.

(29,686 posts)I am very, very pro teacher. I just didn't like that approach to the show. She also seemed unfamiliar with the material and surprised by the answers, which really threw me off. I am not a giant Ken Jennings fan, but he seemed completely in control of the material.
Someone more along the lines of a college professor might work. Alex kind of became professorial as time went by.
We were also comparing her voice to women sportscasters and radio hosts the last few days. There are some women out there with excellent voices. Maybe they need another Canadian!

(12,335 posts)I couldn't stand the executive producer guy -- Mike or whatever his name was. I would place him the bottom of the guest-host list.
Katie Couric was great. Ken Jennings was good, too.
