Breaking: Active shooter at the King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, CO. Multiple down.

@ScottMStedman
Extremely disturbing live YouTube video (not from shooter) shows multiple shots fired, at least 3 people on the ground shot.

(4,170 posts)Using two tragedies where innocents died to feel clever seems to me to be extremely tone deaf. Just my opinion of course. Thanks so much for the explanation though.

(102,096 posts)Here's the Denver Post first take on it:
https://www.denverpost.com/2021/03/22/police-active-shooter-shooting-king-soopers-boulder/
The Boulder Police Department is warning people to stay away from the King Soopers store at 3600 Table Mesa Drive because of an active shooter at the store.
Department officials tweeted the warning at 2:49 p.m. Monday. A public information officer was on their way to the scene. Further information was not immediately provided.
The King Soopers store anchors a large shopping center in the southern part of Boulder, a few blocks from Fairview High School. The Boulder Valley School District is on spring break this week. District spokeswoman Randy Barber said to his knowledge no students or staff were in any of the buildings near the King Soopers on Monday.
A YouTube user has been livestreaming from the scene since roughly 2:30 p.m. His video shows what appear to be shooting victims, and police approaching the front of the badly damaged store in an armored vehicle. He claims he is still hearing gunshots from within the store while taking cover in the parking lot.

Will we ever live in a society where we don't make assumptions like these following a tragedy? I doubt it.

(6,011 posts)My neighbor is a cop in our town. He's a regular patrol officer, but he's also part of a county wide SWAT unit.
He told me that he has his gear with him at all times; in his squad car, and in his personal vehicle.
If he gets "The Call", so to speak, he's on his way to the situation.
I guess that's how it's done.

(64,804 posts)...that shows up in the tactical truck, gear up in the truck.
They train for that every shift, whether they are needed or not.
My wife & I were friends with a police captain from the town of 160,000 where we grew up.
He was tac team for a few years as a lieutenant.
This was the guy who spent 40 years on the force, and drew his gun one time.
His training did not include everybody being the enemy.
He explained a lot of cop stuff to us.
He spent a few years in Internal Affairs, Tac, Gang Task Force, & ended his career as community liaison officer.
He pretty much knew how everything worked.

(1,058 posts)The large number of officers didn't enter the supermarket until nearly 50 minutes after the shooting. A small group of first responders entered early, which is how the police officer was killed (and he was likely not fully armored).

The The Sutherland Springs church shooting that killed 26 people in November 2017.
The WalMart in El Paso shooting that killed 23 people on August 3, 2019.
Those are the ones that I can think of. There are probably others.

(3,522 posts)how many of these maniacs will turn out to be tRump jumpers out for blood with a misplaced sense of grievance over the last election? So their logic is basically hey, there were no maniacs running around killing people after Donnie got elected, so clearly this is Bidens fault...
