Year to date: 109 mass shootings, 122 dead. 325 wounded. 81st day of the year (Original Post) niyad Mar 2021 OP
Fortunately, in 46 of those, no one died. WarGamer Mar 2021 #1
Should we take a bow??? Really???? niyad Mar 2021 #3
Well the alternative is that 3 or 4 people died in all 109 shootings. WarGamer Mar 2021 #4
No, an alternative would be sane gun control. Not intimating that we should be boasting that niyad Mar 2021 #19

Tax the rich and corporations, it's time to turn this ship around. We need the money to pay for investments in quality of life for everyone. This is not a problem in other developed countries. Lack of opportunity grows despair and mental health issues.

I'm disturbed at how this is now part of American culture.

COVID fatigue and economic disaster may be taking a heavy toll on some people's mental stability. Very bad time to have millions of guns in circulation.

we are going to need many more mental health professionals, sad. We need to control this effing virus and get people back to work.

This saying

Idle Minds Quotes. “So it is with minds. Unless you keep them busy with some definite subject that will bridle and control them, they throw themselves in disorder hither and yon in the vague field of imagination... And there is no mad or idle fancy that they do not bring forth in the agitation.”.

because one of her first-grade students had been shot and killed. Kids found a gun and were playing with it.
I've never met her in person, she's in another state, but this hits home.

out. The kids had been instructed that they were NOT to invite their friends over, so of course they did. One of the guests found the gun the father kept. She was playing around with it, and killed one of the other guests. She, and several other kids, are in therapy now. Apart from my sorrow for the parents of the dead child, I seriously want to slap the father. Why in the f'n HELL was a loaded gun kept where even a guest, a child, could find it???

They are supposed to keep the guns locked up. They should have to prove by smartlocks that the gun closet is locked and an auto notification should go to the authorities when the owner unlocks it.

that there have been 7 "mass shootings" (by that definition) in the past 7 days (a bunch happening in various cities over the weekend included - and notably this past Saturday).

Mass shootings, while they provoke a media frenzy, are a drop in the bucket.

In most cases an ordinary semiautomatic handgun is used.
