(1,137 posts)I see it as a possibility for early next year. I want to do stuff with weights, and I just do not have the equipment.
We used to have huge (60 or so people) almost every weekend. I think we may stop that.

I donated all my equipment.
If not find an exercise class on TV.

(1,137 posts)And, quite honestly, I hate classes. I have enough health problems that when I went to a senior (which I am not) yoga class. I left in tears after 15 or so minutes. I need to be able to go at my own pace and weights will help strengthen my back, which should help in the long run.

(17,984 posts)And found an excellent Free Trainer. They simply help you with what you need. I was soon on my own but then the weights began to hurt me knees.
I love water and found 20 minutes walking in water is worth one hour on land. Now I hate to miss because of how I feel. Oh,yes, I started the pool doing my own but was encouraged to join the class. I found a friendly group of women and one man.
You may find it easier as you get involved, I did. But I have always been a walker and exercise nut.

(17,984 posts)To the Y Pool months ago. Masks, constant sanitation and distancing. Temperature check.
I need that early morning exercise class. Felt very safe. Now have my 2 Pfizer shots as do most in my class including the Physical Therapy Teacher.
The sanitation is great.

(26,068 posts)I actually just got back right now from this morning's workout. Last March, I started going at 4 am instead of 6 am, problem solved.
Why would you quit going, when you can go when no one is there, wear a mask, and use wipes?

(17,984 posts)But soon went back. I have a 6 AM class!

(4,170 posts)I could work out with a mask on. Ive always been a heavy sweater, so it just wouldnt work for me. I do miss the pool, and that might get me back in again.

(11,261 posts)I think we seniors all need a rethink on some things we do. At least for another year or so. Just my Opinion.

(5,499 posts)I bought weights and signed up to be able to stream the classes from the program my gym uses. I can do the classes on my own schedule. I'll need to buy a better treadmill for next winter but even the expense of that is offset by not having a family membership at the gym.

(4,657 posts)Zumba with masks on, you get used to it! They take temperatures when you arrive. Classes are small.
My husband's gym is open and he works out three times a week. He says they are very Covid-careful.
We are vaccinated. Whew.

(4,170 posts)My gym has always been very clean, even before the pandemic, but working out with a mask on is not for me. I have exercise equipment at home. My life is very active, physically, so the gym is not a necessity. No idea if Ill ever go back, but I miss the pool and the racquetball courts.

(32,079 posts)I only go at the asscrack of dawn on Sundays, so I can get in a swim with little chance of seeing anyone, other than the one other regular who comes in a little later than me. I live nearby, and shower at home to avoid spending any more time in the locker room than I have to. Nobody in the main gym is wearing masks, and they just took down the plexiglass shield that protects the front desk workers. No way in hell I'm going to that part of the gym any time soon. I wish I could safely take some spin classes and do Zumba with other people. I alternate between exercise videos and walking now, and I'm getting damn tired of it. I also wish I didn't have to get up at an ungodly hour just to go for a swim. I'd like to do it more than once a week.
P.S., My governor is and imbecile.
I am getting a better workout at home plus more hiking and biking. I love having more flexibility

(14,563 posts)I had gone to the gym regularly/religiously for over three decades.
While I am not insane careful with Covid, I have been disciplined about it, for myself, my family, my inlaws. The biggest rule is not going into confined places with lots of people - I have a planet fitness membership and ours is in the mall, so it is very spacious, and mitigates the concern about airborne transmission, BUT, you still have heavy breathing, sweaty people randomly utilizing all the different machines.
It was a LONG winter wo going to the gym, but I have determined that I won't go back until I get vaccinated, and pretty much am going to be the last person in the country to be able to do so.

(3,334 posts)The Gold's Gym next to our VA clinic is full every time we go by it. We were supposed to take boxing lessons starting last March but couldn't. The coach has reopened his with fewer people. We have both received our Moderna shots and will go to the gym in a couple of months to check it out. If we feel it is safe, we will finally be able to learn to box. I should have my first match when I am 74 or 75 and my husband will have his when he is 79 or 80.

(35,437 posts)I will probably just do weights in the gym and run outside for the cardio. I cannot do cardio in a mask.
