(82,849 posts)And that's months down the line, as evidence is developed, testimony is secured, and the defendants have to sift through the evidence against them. It's time-consuming, cumbersome, and absolutely necessary, and I hope to avail myself of every last legal tool at my disposal should I be accused of a crime.
I want these fuckers behind bars, but I want to make sure they don't get off on a technicality because some overeager prosecutor missed something, like what happened to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge terrorists (Thank you, then-AUSA Billy Williams).

(36,023 posts)there should be no unemployed lawyers. As of yesterday, 351 have been charged. 110 of them are by grand jury indictment. Indictments and trials to follow.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/capitol-riot-arrests-2021-03-18/
By March 2021 the Justice Department stated the "investigation and prosecution of the Capitol Attack will likely be one of the largest in American history, both in terms of the number of defendants prosecuted and the nature and volume of the evidence." The Department asked courts to delay most cases by at least two months so the volumes of cases and evidence could be better managed.[521]...
As of March 18, a total of 312 people, from 42 states, were charged in federal court with crimes, including at least 110 indicted by federal grand juries.[26][27] Federal prosecutors expect that at least 400 will ultimately be charged.[521]
Acting U.S. Attorney Sherwin said that "almost all" of the cases charged in federal court have involved "significant federal felonies" with sentences between five and twenty years.[26] Many have been charged with assault on law enforcement officers; "violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol ground";[26] trespassing; disrupting Congress; theft or other property crimes; weapons offenses; making threats; and conspiracy.[523] Some criminal indictments are under seal.[522] The majority of cases are in federal court, while others are in D.C. Superior Court.

I wonder why, and whose, indictments are under seal.

(36,023 posts)for timing court cases so that precedents might enable further discovery; it could be over classified info, in which case that should be publicly stated; it could be that elected officials get judges' chamber considerations for questionable reasons.
But sealed indictments and the justice system's neglect of jury-based trial justice really piss me off.

but being assholes, they'll get quick trials, lose them, and be faced with a minimum of fines, court costs, and what I hope will be long probation with their Preciious taken away from them for the duration (you know, no guns).
That last part will hurt them most of all, especially the ones who went in as couples, no way to get their arsenals registered to Mrs. Howler MonKey, she also got the fine and probation.
Trials most likely won't start until June and they won't be over for many months. The wheels of justice grind ever slowly, but grind they do, something these jerks are about to find out.

(4,572 posts)They need to go after Bannon, Stone and Manafort. Paul Manafort did this kind of shit in the Ukraine against their government. They're neck-deep in this shit and they need to serve some time for this.
Maybe some of the lower hanging fruit will flip...
