All the elected officials seem to be taking turns on national tv, not much substance about the shooting although they did name the poor folks that were killed and the shooter.
Once again the politicians say they condemn this but the republicans will still vote against gun control..

(115,587 posts)It's always the same:
1. Guy shoots a bunch of people in a public place.
2. Guy is arrested, killed by police, or kills himself.
3. Police and other officials give a press conference in which they offer thoughts and prayers and vow to prosecute the perp, if he's alive.
4. Elected officials not involved in the community do the thoughts & prayers thing.
5. Gun control is demanded.
6. GOPers say it's too soon to politicize such a tragic event.
7. Nothing happens.
8. Before long another mass shooting occurs.
9. Repeat the above.
Sorry to be so cynical, but if Sandy Hook and Parklane didn't change things, I don't know what will.

(7,285 posts)sad but true..
politicians always take a grand stand on national tv and the cops are always the hero while the common citizens are slaughtered and not spoken of.
Rethugs promote the nra and sweep it under the rug, remember the guy in Las Vegas killing from a upper hotel window..
Rethugs are dispicable.

(58,785 posts)for the good, but the crazies are going crazy because of all the change, which they fear. They've not only been losing for decades now, they now know they're a minority who can only continue to lose, so they're trying to escape by burning down the house. They're losing that also.
While they struggle, we're making MORE, VERY BIG CHANGE. The $1.9T American Rescue Plan is NOTHING to our giant $3T (perhaps $7T over time) infrastructure Build Back Better plan, with huge investments in particular in "human infrastructure," climate infrastructure, technology and innovation. And of course ports, roads, bridges. And jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs.
White House aides are reportedly compiling a $3 trillion plan that would include a wide range of priorities, including social programs, such as universal pre-K and free community college, and tax changes, ... "President Biden and his team are considering a range of potential options for how to invest in working families and reform our tax code so it rewards work, not wealth."
This is going to be an infrastructure bill that goes far beyond roads and bridges. It's designed to be a major investment in manufacturing and the technologies of the future, including 5G, a green electric grid, universal broadband Internet access, semiconductor production and carbon-free transportation.
Galston says it's a bill that could transform the country: "A country that has not invested in itself for a very long time. A country that is on the verge of losing its technological and economic superiority to the rising power at the other side of the Pacific." That means China. Outcompeting Beijing is something that both parties agree on, and it's at the heart of Biden's sales pitch for the Build Back Better agenda.
"If we don't get moving, they are going to eat our lunch," Biden said at a bipartisan meeting of senators in the Oval Office last month, the day after he spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
