A Florida man and member of the Oath Keeper militia organization who was charged with coordinating a military-style attack on the U.S. Capitol aimed at overthrowing the federal government is asking a federal judge to reconsider a ruling that will keep him in jail until the start of his criminal trial.
Graydon Young, 54, was denied bond last month by U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Wilson after claiming that he was duped into participating in an insurrection with the extremist para-military group. He insisted that he was unaware of the organizations nefarious purpose when he joined and claiming his role in Jan. 6 was limited.
In the Second Superseding Indictment filed earlier this month in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., the government alleged that on Jan. 6, Young and nine other members of the Oath Keepers planned with each other, and with others known and unknown, to forcibly enter the Capitol in order to stop, delay, and hinder the Congressional proceedings occurring that day.

Edited to add: Oh, this is rich.
I thought he was a "warrior" who would do anything for his Maximum Leader. Whiny asshole.

(13,421 posts)You know the ones--right? The ones that got beaten and injured when your gang of seditionists stormed the Capitol. I'm betting they were left with "irreperable physcological and emotional damage" from your group's actions. PRETTY sure that police officer that got killed would be considered as "damaged" by that day, and his family and friends will never be the same either.
In the not too distant history of this country, conviction and execution was not a slow process. He better be thankful parts of our society are a bit more compassionate than they used to be.

(50,949 posts)having some serious issues with your masculinity. The fact that he is calling himself a "strong family man" when he put his whole family at risk to impress his buddies is further proof of that shit.
AND FURTHERMORE! I doubt he would be endorsing the release of any person of color simply because it was that person's first time in jail. Which is essentially what he is demanding we do for him. Somehow I feel sure this is one of the ones who previously applauded when he heard of horrible conditions in jails and probably was from the "jail is supposed to be hard" chorus.
These guys are all twisted.

Off to prison snowflake.
many years ago my best friend's daughter returned home from college in the US with her Malcolm X T shirt. Her mother asked her what she had researched about Malcolm. She said not much. At that point her mother folded up the T shirt and put it in her drawer. Her mother went to the book shelf and gave her his Autobiography then suggested that she research his life for herself.
Her mom then tod her when she was finished the research she'd return the T shirt.
She wore it often after that. Never follow people - find out for yourself.

My parents never did read it. I suppose illusions are preferable to fact for a lot of people.

(111,252 posts)which was fairly faithful to the book, just very incomplete.
I can understand why a lot of it would be incomprehensible here in NM, where bigotries and challenges are so very different. People in Boston should have been able to relate to it, if only because so many of us under 25 experienced living in slumlord housing. Oh, yeah, I totally got that part of the book, although I was angrier that the occupation was allowed to exist, rather than disdaining the ethnicity of most of the slumlords.

(111,252 posts)and fewer still in Boston had read it, so much for $$$$ higher educations.
It's not only a brilliant snapshot of the early Civil Rights period, it's also a picture of the man behind the fiery rhetoric, the reasons for the fiery rhetoric, and how his Haj had awakened him to a much broader perspective. It is truly tragic that he was shot before he had a chance to teach it.
It's not only a good read, it's a great book. I can't say that about too many books.
Well written as well

(22,034 posts)Thanks for sharing that. It's instructive.
You've articulated the problem with too many of today's Republicans. Namely, they really have no idea what they're talking about. They don't know the facts or the history of the things they spout off about. The obvious proof of this is that they now embrace Russia after decades of warning of the dangers Russia posed to the U.S. (Did you see the tee shirt that said, "I'd rather be a Russian than a Democrat"?)
Seriously, put this jerk in jail. "Family man," my ass.

(111,252 posts)but I suppose that stuff is for wimps and cucks and not manly men like him.
Every single person there know s/he was there to stop the final certification of the electoral college vote that would oust Dumdum. Even the non violent hangers-on knew that, Dumdum told them so before he wimped out and let them do the dirty work while he watched it on live TV and cheered.
The only remorse they have is that it didn't work as advertised and they got caught.

(6,530 posts)It is 100% reasonable to get duped into joining a group, seeing what they have planned, and saying, "Oh, Jesus, no, I'm doing that BS, that's wrong."
It is 100% unreasonable to claim that you have been duped into joining a group, seeing that they have traitorous, dangerous & seditionist acts, participating in those acts, and then saying that you had no idea of their purposes. No.
