Boulder shooting: Victims identified, suspect charged

The suspect, 21-year-old Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, of Arvada, Colorado, suffered a leg wound and was taken into custody at 3:28 p.m. Monday, the chief said.

The suspect has been charged with 10 counts of murder, Herold said. He was expected to be taken to the Boulder County Jail Tuesday following his release from the hospital, Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty said.
The victims range in age from 20 to 65, Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold said.

The slain officer, 51-year-old Eric Talley, was the first member of law enforcement to arrive at the scene, Herold said. He was shot in the head, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. The other victims were identified as: Denny Stong, 20; Neven Stanisic, 23; Rikki Olds, 25; Tralona Bartkowiak, 49; Suzanne Fountain, 59; Teri Leiker, 51; Kevin Mahoney, 61; Lynn Murray, 62; and Jody Waters, 65.

I am so drained by reading the names and ages of innocent victims again and again and again.
I am so tired of pictures of lunatics, clearly unstable people with dead eyes, broadcast everywhere for days.
I am so sick of explaining to people that we have police and authorities and courts and law so that the "need" for everyone to have unfettered access to guns is not only unnecessary but stupid as well.

Here's a way to stop these random shootings - mind you, there is a separate and EQUALLY urgent need for mental health care in this country, but this is about stopping military-esque spree-killings in civilian settings.

1) Gun owner's insurance - liability required for ANY crimes committed with your gun. Stolen from you? Better report it stolen to police immediately or you're still liable.

2) Tax ammunition. Sell bullets and shells at steep discounts in license shooting ranges, and to hunters as part of their licensing fees and agreements. But to some jack-off who wants to quickly buy a gun and a bunch of ammo - make the cost of every round $100,000 per privately bought or held shell for the first 90 days of gun ownership, with a sliding scale to market pricing after 1 year. Someone wanting to buy extra bullets would have to further break the law to do so and would have to convince other legitimate marketers to likewise risk imprisonment and bankruptcy to aid and abet these people from getting the murder tools they need quickly.

3) Life sentences in labor camps for anyone convicted of circumventing or breaking licensing requirements, ammunition pricing or assistance in arming new owners. Let's see how badly dealers want to get that sweet sweet gun money if making a sale means that they might be bankrupt when a customer goes on a rampage with illicitly obtained bullets and/or arms.

If my kid had to get a learner's permit and training to DRIVE, or if I need a fucking license to fish, then the onus for gun ownership must change from the current permissiveness in deference to a non-existent "slippery slope" to something had puts the full weight of the social burden of gun ownership on gun owners themselves.

Honestly, gun humpers, I do not WANT your guns...I just want to stop reading about innocent victims being mowed down so that you can continue getting getting off while rubbing your deadly pieces of steel and death.

Guns should not only be massively TAXED and CONTROLLED, they should carry with it a mammoth penalty for allowing your gun to be used illicitly: Your gun? Your fault. Period.
