Just a month ago,
my doctor said that they did not have the covid vaccine.... when I went for my monthly check on an issue they
now DO have the vaccine now and are starting to give it out at least two or three times a week whenever they have it in stock so if you have a small doctor's office that you've been going to, I've had my doctor for 37 years check with your doctors they may have the vaccine.

(102,192 posts)I have absolutely no intent to deride your physician --or any other physician office, but few are really set up to deal with the temperature extremes for storage and administration that Pfizer requires unless they are part of a very large group where central handling and satellite distribution daily can occur-- as with some of the pharmacies (and yes, I know first hand as I am administering them). Moderna is a little less intensive and "doable," but it would still be a challenge for a small clinic without specialized refrigeration/freezers.
I think most clinics could readily handle the J&J vaccine for which handling conditions are pretty typical of other vaccines that they are likely administering (like influenza).
Again, not trying to throw shade on yours or any other doctor's office, but the last thing you want is to receive a vaccine that was not properly handled.
I'm guessing most state health departments (or whoever is overseeing vaccine distribution) are very cognizant of who is capable of handling the various vaccines and is interceding appropriately. But, it does not hurt to inquire. Some states are overseeing strictly with proper training and supervision. Others less so.

(34,133 posts)They have their own lab building for testing, radiology, and an immunization clinic - which is where I received my vaccinations. That is one major advantage to using this group practice - they can handle almost anything.
But your concern is well noted. Smaller practices, such as my previous single doctor's office, would not be able to deal with this situation.

(19,803 posts)Because he said that they could give me my second shot in my first shot was moderna back February 2nd he said that they did have the freezer capacity to store the drug but chances are it's just a very small amounts only like so many doses because that office only has it for like three times a week for some in the morning and some in the afternoon it's not every day all day...

(1,477 posts)I also go to a small clinic which called me to make a vaccine appointment as soon as Wisconsin allowed for those with preexisting conditions to get a shot. I dont know which vaccine they have because I had already made an appointment with Walgreens.
