en. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told New York Times that he doesnt feel particularly comfortable with Twitter permanently banning former President Trump from the platform.
Sanders said Trump is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe, a pathological liar, an authoritarian, somebody who doesnt believe in the rule of law.
But he added if youre asking me, do I feel particularly comfortable that the president, the then-president of the United States, could not express his views on Twitter? I dont feel comfortable about it.

(111,980 posts)Twitter didn't ban Trump until after he used their platform to promote an insurrection. There is a difference between expressing a point of view and advocating for an overthrow of the government.

(2,338 posts)Bernie says some weird shit. How many times over the last 5 years (or really, since Obama was elected), did Orange Foolius violate Twitter's terms of service - and get away with it, because he drew eyeballs (and thus brought in $$ for Jack)? Twitter/Jack Dorsey FINALLY grew a spine and enforced their policies only after Dolt45 incited an insurrection and then seemed to push more violence after THAT.
So, no Bernie, Putin's Puppet wasn't simply banned so he "could not express his views". He got banned for a 5-12 year (metaphorical) pile up of car wrecks, 18-wheeler collisions, ship sinkings* and train crashes...that he caused...deliberately.
*There was an instance of a tRump Boats On Parade in Texas where a bunch sank. Maybe his fault for inspiring morons who don't know boat safety to get out on the water? lol

(8,282 posts)And is outraged that twitter banned him. I'm pretty sure this doesn't mean he isn't happy with the fact Trump isn't spouting off his bigotry every day for all to see. But that doesn't mean there aren't other issues with the way things have been working out.

(11,432 posts)Trump holds a cult like spell on his people and we desperately needed to break whatever hold he has on them before its too late and we end up in civil war.
I believe in free speech but that kind of speech is like yelling fire in a crowded theater when there is none. It only creates fear and chaos.

(11,613 posts)Sanders is one of the most reliably progressive voices in the senate, he does not "want to see Democrats fail", and he has been ten times more supportive of Joe Biden and his agenda than the blue dogs at the "centrist" end of the party.
I understand in principle why he would be opposed to this, yet in this case it seems to have done a lot of good ripping the platform out from under the racist asshole Trump.

(2,403 posts)He may caucus with us but make no mistake he would like to see the Democratic party eventually go by the wayside. Likely after Republicanism is finished. His only use for the Democratic party is to further his agenda. Not really a slam on Bernie it is just the truth. I have no problem with that other than when he takes shots at Democrats or takes some of our long established ideas and brands them as his own.
I'd take Bernie over Manchin or Sinema any day.
(Although I do not agree with him on this.)

(2,403 posts)Ok lets start with Twitter is a private company and can dictate what takes place on their platform. Secondly I think a company not allowing someone spreading dangerous rhetoric on their platform that may lead to people killing you (insurrection) should be celebrated.
Good grief.

You shouldnt have been comfortable that they werent enforced on Trump for 4 years, despite multiple violations that would have had other users banned much earlier.
