Third stimulus check: House members want answers on Social Security delay

The IRS has not given a date on when the latest round of stimulus checks would go out to retirees, veterans and people with disabilities.

WASHINGTON — A key House committee wants the heads of the Internal Revenue Service and Social Security Administration to explain by Friday why the $1,400 stimulus checks from the American Rescue Plan have been slow to get out to people on Social Security and other government programs.

In a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig and SSA Commissioner Andrew Saul, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass, and three subcommittee heads expressed concern as to why payments have been delayed to beneficiaries of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, the Railroad Retirement Board and of Veterans Affairs. They also want to know why the IRS can't provide a timeline of when the payments will go out.

I got all of my stimulus deposits in a very timely manner.

Not sure how much it matters that I do file every year.

My first 2 stimulus checks came in short order, but this one is getting the dreaded "Status Not Available". Yes this is a problem and it needs an answer.

are playing wicked games to try to make Democrats look bad.

Social Security and Railroad retirees who have direct deposit, and are non-filers, generally got the 2 prior stimulus payments deposited in their bank accounts in a timely manner, but are now in the dark about why the third payment has not been sent, and if it will be sent. We know the IRS already has the information to put the deposits in these accounts; they've done it twice before.

Glad Democrats are investigating. Are Saul and Black up to no good, possibly throwing a monkey wrench in the Social Security system to slow it down, (like DeJoy has done with USPS), and harm vulnerable Americans, in service of the orange menace who appointed them, and the fascist GOP that wants to end Social Security?

Calls Grow for Biden to Remove Trump Holdovers Who Want to Gut Social Security

A growing chorus of Democratic lawmakers, progressive advocacy groups, and labor unions is calling on President Joe Biden to immediately remove the two top officials at the Social Security Administration, lesser-known Trump appointees who have come under fire for pursuing policies that would strip benefits from vulnerable seniors and people with disabilities.

In a letter (pdf) to Biden sent last week and posted online Tuesday, Social Security Works executive director Alex Lawson argued that SSA Commissioner Andrew Saul and Deputy Commissioner David Black “have made a habit of undermining our Social Security system and the SSA federal workforce” during their tenure at the agency, which distributes crucial benefits to tens of millions of people across the U.S. every year.

“Saul and Black engineered and implemented policies to quietly dismantle the protections of Social Security for some of the most vulnerable Americans,” Lawson continued. “Just this past January they tried to push through a cruel regulation that would have led to people with disabilities wrongfully getting pushed out of the Social Security system. To effectuate your Social Security agenda, it is imperative to have the Social Security leadership support it. Saul and Black emphatically do not.”
.........
Democratic lawmakers in both the House and Senate have also recently urged Biden to remove Saul and Black, presenting their termination as a step the president must take to fulfill his campaign promise to protect and strengthen Social Security.

and had been deposited onto the Direct Express cards, but that this 3rd stimulus was being sent as a paper check via USPS, even though NO info (address, etc) has changed.

Why? What possible reason could there be? I'm reading that it could take several weeks for USPS to deliver paper checks. For people who already HAVE a Direct Express card. And worse, many such people don't have or use a bank, so WTF are they to do with a paper check? Pay someone to cash it for them? Of course.

Something is very wrong here.
