(13,903 posts)Ur-Fascism is based upon a selective populism, a qualitative populism, one might say.
In a democracy, the citizens have individual rights, but the citizens in their entirety have a
political impact only from a quantitative point of view one follows the decisions of the
majority. For Ur-Fascism, however, individuals as individuals have no rights, and the
People is conceived as a quality, a monolithic entity expressing the Common Will. Since
no large quantity of human beings can have a common will, the Leader pretends to be
their interpreter. Having lost their power of delegation, citizens do not act; they are only
called on to play the role of the People. Thus the People is only a theatrical fiction. To
have a good instance of qualitative populism we no longer need the Piazza Venezia in
Rome or the Nuremberg Stadium. There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in
which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and
accepted as the Voice of the People.

(13,587 posts)This is what I call the "Limbaugh effect." Back when he got started with his syndicated radio show, fostered by reagan killing the fairness doctrine, the MSM was awash in stories about "what the people think." How did they determine what that was? They would simply drive into some backwater and turn on their AM radio. What they heard became the sole basis for their story and, thus, became "the voice of the people."

(1,896 posts)think that they know about something. Lindell thinks all the followers will flock to the next pasture. At the horse races he is the longshot in every race but somehow stumbles into the money. After it happens a few times he begins to think things always happen the way he had planned all along. I think it's a great idea and he should jump right in.

(11,728 posts)This guy is going to tell the users of his social media site who they HAVE to follow. "No choice, you have to follow this guy and that guy"
Sounds like a legit way to promote personal freedom and get away from the tyranny of Twitter, Instagram, and other "leftist" sites where you don't have to follow anyone you don't want to follow, where you can actually do and say anything and follow right wingers, moderates, leftists, etc... as long as you follow the TOS and don't act like a complete scumbag. Freedom! to have the my pillow guy pick who you have listen to. Beware You Tube, your days are numbered.
