I lived in Jax for nine years. Remember "greaseman?" Openly racist routines years ago portraying police violence in the African-American community as comedy. Very popular among military officers in the area, who were overwhelmingly white.

Jacksonville used to also have a Nathan Forrest High School. As in the founder of the KKK and also a Confederate General. It wasn't changed until 2014.

And Lee isn't the only General still in use. There is also a JEB Stuart Middle School.

And of course, most of these schools are predominantly african american so it just compounds the insults.

I grew up there and moved away to go to college. My family still lives there but I cant stand to spend more than a few days there at a time. Ugh

Edited to add.

I just noticed that they also still have a Jefferson Davis Middle School.

Disgraceful
